  • Rochelle's man has two, er, one job?

    9.7
This episode is hilarious from start to finish, with both plots, Chris trying to get expelled and causing a car crash and Julius getting a stinky job with fish, causidng him to stink up the house. The episode raises the great issue of sacrifice and does it in a very comedic fashion, with the grand moral of no matter which school you go to, you're going to get beaten.

This episode really solidifies Greg's character aswell, as both a friend of Chris, and his strange characteristics of loneliness. Overall, the episode is very good and has some very memorable moments throughout.moreless

    • Julius: Can I still take the kids to Great Escape?
Drew: No, Dad! We don't wanna go nowhere with you!
      Tonya: Yeah Daddy! You stink!

    • Professor: 30 more seconds in there and we would have been blacker than you!

    • Chris: (narrating) It's been a year since my mom sent me to Corleone Junior High for a better education.
      White Kid: Jerk!
Chris: (narrating) Oh, I was getting a better education, all right: an education in misery! I was tired of my classes.
Mrs. Morello: Inga-binga-binga-bunga. Chris, what tribe are you from?
      Chris: I don't know.
Chris: (narrating) I still struggled to get sleep.
      Chris: Goodnight, momma.
Rochelle: Goodnight, baby. (switches the light off and back on again) Chris! Get your butt up! It's time to go to school!
      Chris: Rrrghhh!
Chris: (narrating) And, worst of all, everybody hated me. The kids hated me. The teachers hated me. Even the lunch ladies hated me. (gets chased by white kids, teachers, and lunch ladies) But, the only good thing that happened to me at Corleone was meeting Greg.

    • Julius: I can't just quit! What kind of example would that be for the kids? Huh? Did Thurgood Marshall quit? Did Frederick Douglas quit? Did Booker T. Washington quit?
      Rochelle: I don't know and I don't care.

    • (after Rochelle locks Julius out)
      Julius: Let me in.
      Rochelle: No. You smell.
Julius: That's the smell of a working man.
Rochelle: No, that is the smell of Aquaman.

    • Chris: (narrated) That day I realized that no matter what school I went to, things were gonna to be rough, but as long as I had Greg everything was gonna to be all right.

    • Rochelle: (to Julius) You smell like curried tube socks!

    • Rochelle: I've been burning so much incense, ten people came by here trying to buy reggae albums!

    • Julius: What if Jackie Robinson quit? What if George Washington Carver quit? What if Martin Luther King Jr. quit?
Chris Rock: (narrating) My father always started strong, but he never finished that way. Julius: What if Colonel Sanders quit? What if Apollo Creed quit? What if Katherine Jackson quit makin' kids?
Chris Rock: (narrating) Ain't she a woman?
Julius: They might be the Jackson 3! What if Kool from Kool and the Gang quit? You think they would've gotten a record contract if they were just called the Gang?

  • NOTES (2)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Chris: (narrating) Hey, this ain't Brokeback.

Brokeback Mountain is a 2005 film starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal about two ranch hands who fall in love unexpectedly and continue their love affair for a span of 20 years.

    • The other schools mentioned that are in Chris's neighborhood are named after African-American TV- related names from the 70's: Marla Gibbs who played the Jeffersons' maid Florence on that show, and LaMont Sanford who was the son of Fred Sanford on Sanford and Son, played by Demond Wilson.
