    • Chris: (narrating) After spending a whole day with Principal Edwards, I no longer felt like an outsider. I had a new friend.
Principal Edwards: (puts a tardy slip on Chris) You're late.
Chris: What? A tardy slip? But what about yesterday?
Principal Edwards: That was in the past. We're in the now, Chris, and now you're late.

    • Chris: Momma, do I have to go to school? I mean, it's snowin' like crazy.
Rochelle: It's snow, Chris, not Armageddon. Now hurry up. You know the buses are gonna be runnin' slow.

Julius: How much money did you have?
      Rochelle: A dollar.

  • Notes

    • Music from this episode:

      J. Geils Band's "Freeze Frame" plays at the beginning of the show.

Chris and the principal lip sync and dance to Run DMC's "Rock Box."

  • Allusions

    • Rochelle addresses the robber as "Scarface." Scarface is an Al Pacino movie about Tony "Scarface" Montana, who comes to Miami from Cuba and becomes a powerful gangster. "Scarface" was also Al Capone's nickname.

    • Chris (narrating): I went back in to find crouching tiger, hidden principal.

This is a play on the 2000 movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which featured several scenes of gravity-defying martial arts moves.
