    6.0
Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame guest starred here. Obviously appearing on The CW is a huge step-down for the actor, but then again he has not done anything of note in years. His scenes were funny (keep your hands off my school lunch system!) and he definitely could have helped this show as a recurring character, but this was his first of two appearances on the show. The storyline with Chris and Caruso was mildly amusing, but today the cutaway scenes were so obtrusive. Rochelle was never held captive in Mexico, okay? Let us try to be serious for a minute here.moreless
  • The best so far...

    9.6
Jason Alexander was absolutely superb as the new principal of Corleone High. This was an outstanding episode with hilarious bits and references and one-liners that all together make a great comedy produce a great episode. The new principal, Mr. Edwards, decides that the best way to solve the issues between Chris and Caruso is to have them become buddies on a school field trip. So the Buddy System means that Chris and Caruso have to stay together but then the bus leaves them and this leads to a lot of hilarious dialogues between the two when they are forced to take the subway. When Rochelle's favorite earrings are missing Tanya is the prime suspect. Julius tries to find a Wayne Gretzky jersey for Drew and when he does, it is spelt wrong. The fantasy scene where Drew shouts at Julius and is then carried out in a strecher had me in stitches. A recommended episode!moreless
  • Great Show!!

This is the first time I have watched the show and thought it was very good. My little sistem (Mackenzee Donham)played Jennifer, the nerdy girl in the episode. She is going to become a reoccuring character and will be in the eggs episode next. Great Show!!! Way to go Mackenzee!!!

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Principal Edwards: You were fighting. Why?
Chris: 'Cause he hates black people, and I'm a black person.
Caruso: That's a lie. I love Michael Jordan. I think Gary Coleman is hysterical. And don't even get me started about Billy Ocean.
Principal Edwards: "Caribbean Queen." That's a very good song.

    • (Tonya is dressed as a geisha)
Tonya: Father, I have brought disgrace to myself and to our family. (gets out a belt)
      Julius: Tonya, no!
Tonya: Leave me now, Father. I must whup myself until you can find it in your heart to forgive me. (whips herself repeatedly)

    • Pricipal Edwards: Now remember, the only way you're going to get along with Caruso is if you understand why he hates you. He needs your help.
Chris: But if I'm helping him, who's going to help me?
      Principal Edwards: You're helping yourself.
Chris Rock: (narration) Spoken like a true white man.

    • Chris Rock: (narration) I guess this is what Martin Luther King fought for -- black and white bullies, side by side, ready to kick my ass.

    • Tonya: Everybody else has them.
Rochelle: Well if everybody else got a butt whippin' would you want one too.

  • NOTES (4)

    • The song playing while Chris and Caruso are on the subway is "The Situation" by Yaz.

    • As the subway goes through the theater district, a bunch of people dressed up as cats can be seen on the train. They are supposed to be the cast of Cats, a Broadway musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber that has been performed in New York from 1982 to 2000.

    • When Principal Edwards is talking to Chris by the bus after they get to the museum, Edwards puts his hand on Chris's face. He does this in the same fashion that a Vulcan performs a mind meld in Star Trek.

    • The song playing at the end was Why Can't We Be Friends by War.

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • Chris Rock: The next year Drew got a Yankees jersey that said "Mezzie Mackson."

He is probably referring to Reggie Jackson who is a former Major League Baseball player who played for the New York Yankees among other teams from 1967 to 1987. Jackson is in the Baseball Hall of Fame and known as "Mr. October" because of his clutch hitting.

    • Chris Rock: (narration) That's what people said while they were boarding the Amistad.

The Amistad was a slave ship where, in 1839, a mutiny took place as it was traveling to America. The story was turned into a 1997 film of the same name, starring Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins.

    • Chris: Just because you watch Soul Train doesn't make you Don Cornelius.

Don Cornelius was the host of Soul Train for 27 years. Soul Train was the R&B answer to American Bandstand when it started in the 1970's.
