Ray's dad decides that he's also a writer, and submits several pieces to Reader's Digest and ultimately to Ray's paper, much to the embarrassment and annoyance of Deb, Ray, and Doris.

There's a few amateurish jokes, but the show doesn't really get funny until the latter part of the first season.

This is probably the greatest episode of Raymond so far in season 1 excluding episode 1.04 - Standard Deviation which I think is better.

I really liked the way that Frank acted in this episode thinking that he was a good writer. The way that he “lectures” Ray and his work buddies on good writing is hilarious! Very funny!

I liked the Marie mini-plot in which she is annoyed because she know believes that she is a grease monkey thanks to Frank making her type! Especially when he takes his $300 near the start of the episode.

The ending of this episode is very good when we flash over to Japan and find out that Frank has submitted a story about Ray, or should I say Roy?, to the Readers Digest!

This is a great episode and one that I recommend.moreless
