Episode Summary

EDIT
Ray is overjoyed by the reaction he is getting from friends and family who received a personalized "Barone" toaster from him as a gift--even Debra's pretentious parents are thrilled with it. But, having heard nothing from his parents, Ray confronts Frank and Marie, the two people whose approval matters most, and is amazed beyond belief to hear what they did with the gift--and then what they resort to in order to get it back.moreless

  • Raymond and Debra give out toasters for Christmas, everyone likes it except Marie and Frank.

This was a hilarious Christmas episode. I like the part where Ray calls his parents psychopaths. The scene with Marie and Frank at the store is a scene not to be missed. Great acting performances by Ray and his parents.
  • Ray comes up with the perfect Christmas gift which everyone loves. Except his parents!

Featuring one of the best exchanges between Frank and Marie in the entire 'Everybody Loves Raymond' canon,'The Toaster' finds Ray over the moon with the reaction his Christmas gift has got from family and friends. With the exception of his parents which completely mortifies him. 'Who are you people?',he exclaims when he discovers that his parents have traded in his engraved toaster for a coffee machine. As Christmas episodes go this is one of the better ones as all the regular characters have some great lines and even livlier exchanges. Frank and Marie, once they discover how much they've upset Ray,go to extraordinary lengths to track it down resulting in a riotous scene at the Bloomingdales Exchange Counter. And the brief closing scene is as funny as it is poignant.moreless
  • My personal favourite episode in this series. Had one of the best lines in this show: Marie: I'm not some kind of trophy wife! Frank: You're a trophy wife? What contest in hell did I win?moreless

This episode was definately a series classic. It is my favourite episode of Everybody Loves Raymond.

It is another Christmas episode and the Barones (Debra, Raymond and the kids) go to visit Debra's mother for Christmas. They leave Frank, Robert and Marie behind.

Raymond gives everyone a toaster saying something like From Michael Geoffery, Ally, Raymond and Debra, we love you.

Everyone loves it but not Marie, Frank and Robert. They didn't notice it said the engravings so they traded it for a coffee maker, which Marie kindly offers to engrave after she finds out what has happened.

This results Marie and Frank going to Bloomingdales (even though the toaster wasn't purchased there) and asking for a refund of the coffee maker to trade for the toaster..This scene is hilarious with the quote i mentioned above.

    A great episode, watch it!moreless
