Ewan and Charley: A Road Less Travelled

Show Summary

Ewan and Charley: A Road Less Traveled is a travel documentary developed by BBC TV that follows Scottish actor Ewan McGregor and his friend, British adventurer Charley Boorman as they hop on their motorcycles to traverse the landscape of Ethiopia, Uganda, and Malawi, three African countries each struggling with issues affecting their people. In Ethiopia, Ewan and Charley survey the devastation caused by the two-year war between Ethiopia and a neighboring country, Eritrea. With UNICEF's help, the two help educate children on the risks of the one million landmines hidden in the borders. In Uganda, the travelers find out about child soldiers as they hear about the horrors of abductions and educations into the world of violence from former child soldiers as well as the hardship of reintegration into a semi-normal life for a child their age. In Malawi, Ewan and Charley does not look at the effects of war but the effects of illness as they visit the Chimteka care centre to interact with the children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, who often have been ostracized. Ewan and Charley: A Road Less Traveled is only a part of the motorcycle journey taken by the two as they have crossed Europe and parts of Asia in A Long Way Around and the distance from Scotland to South Africa in A Long Way Down.moreless
