    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • Corliogne is a name familiar in Mafia circles.

      • The part where Corleone and Dick laugh with "Ha" in red letters scrolling in the background is a depiction of a common stereotype that Japanese have for Americans. The stereotype is that Americans just burst into laughter for little to no reason.

    • QUOTES (7)

      • Excel: Viva animation!

      • Excel: Yo mama es un pig!

      • Excel: Yo yo homies! Feliz Navidad! Me llamo Excel! You're my bitches!

      • Gomez: Damn it! That flashback was too long!
Pedro: That is tough! Those numerous trials have changed Pedro! And when Pedro has finished his coffee, he will show you his wrath!
(Pedro sips his coffee, and then Gomez sips his coffee.)
Pedro's Sexy Ex: You're awesome, mi corazon!
(Pedro's Sexy Ex sips her coffee, and then Pedro makes his eye do a twinkling effect.)
        Gomez: Stop that twinkling!
Pedro: Shut up! What is wrong with twinkling, you nincompoop? And in any case, you will soon know the wrath of Pedro, Gomez!
(Pedro sips his coffee again, and then Gomez sips his coffee again.)
Pedro's Sexy Ex: Once again, you're so awesome!
(Pedro's Sexy Ex sips her coffee again, and then Pedro makes his eye do another twinkling effect.)
Great Will of the Macrocosm: Hey! Stop with the slurpin' and start with the fightin'!
Pedro, Pedro's Sexy Ex, and Gomez: Oh, all right.

      • Excel: Stop this senseless fighting!
        Corliogne: Who's-a there?
Excel: I'm here, that's who! First name - Excel! Last name - Excel! Occupation - main character!
        Corliogne: No, it's-a not possible!
        Big Dick: Ooh, a cosplayer!

      • Koshi Rikdo: I hereby give permission to make Excel Saga into an Americanized Japanimation!
        Nabeshin: You suck!

      • (From the Japanese Version)
Excel: (in broken English) Hello! Merry Christmas, I'm Excel! You are dog!

    • NOTES (6)

      • Today's Experiment...... NG.

      • According to Excel, the rules of Japanese animation are the following:

        1) Bullets never hit the main character.
        2) Lots of meaningless explosions take out small fries in one fell swoop.
        3) Anime can get pretty graphic.

      • According to Excel, the rules of American animation are the following:

        1) The heroine's punch is ridiculously lethal.
        2) The rules can change at any moment.
        3) Even beating bad guys can be full of humor.

      • While explaining the rules of American animation, Excel parodied Wonder Woman, The Simpsons, and Mickey Mouse.

      • This episode makes many references to Puni Puni Poemy/Poemii, the spin-off of Excel Saga.

      • Although his death isn't shown, Sandora is killed by Corliogne, Big Dick, and their goons. Also, as he died, Sandora copies his father Pedro by yelling "NO!"

    • ALLUSIONS (3)

      • Big Dick: Those are from Samurai M!
This could be a possible reference to the anime Samurai X (a.k.a. Rurouni Kenshin). While ADV, the company that dubbed Excel Saga, did not dub the Rurouni Kenshin TV series, ADV dubbed the Kenshin OVAs and movie and released them under the title Samurai X.

      • Sandora and Corliogne: Guarandoo! And boomerang!
When Sandora and Corliogne meet each other at the apartment, they do a special handshake and say, "Guarandoo! And boomerang" at the same time. This is identical to how Excel and Pedro's handshake seen in the first episode. "Guarandoo" could refer to the title of an album of an unknown singer, whereas "Boomerang" is one of the songs on that album.

      • Excel: So in the name of the toons, Excel will punish you!
This is an obvious take on Sailor Moon's catchphrase (from the U.S. release, at least), "In the name of the Moon, I will punish you!" Interestingly, Excel's Japanese voice actress, Kotono Mitsuishi, also did the voice of Usagi/Sailor Moon (better known as Serena in the States) in the original Japanese version of Sailor Moon.
