    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • Tetsuko gets bitten by an anaconda and says that the poison is working its way through her body. However, anacondas are not really poisonous.

      • At episode's end, when we see Koshi Rikdo sleeping, there are figurines of Ropponmatsu 1 and 2 on the shelf above his bed. There is also a picture of Ropponmatsu 2 on the videotape that Rikdo has during the Authorization.

    • QUOTES (7)

      • Excel: (singing) Oh yeah! Peace is so wonderful!

      • (Hyatt gets sick and falls on Excel)
Excel: Aah! What's this? What's this?! We just met and she's dead already!

      • Watanabe: (to Hyatt) Um, it's nice to meet you. I live next door. May I ask your name?
Nabeshin: (pops up from the bottom of the screen) It's Nabeshin!
        Watanabe: Dah! Not you, numb-nuts!

      • Ilpallazzo: (about the terminally ill Hyatt) It appears that she will be more reliable than Excel.

      • Helicopter crew: Where are we going to?
General: Who cares? We don't have a special reason.
Helicopter crew: But, then, what are we flying around for, sir?
General: We just wanted some action for this low budget movie.

      • Commander: I'm giving you whips a special training exercise. Build one dog house within the day. If it's late, there'll be no mercy.

      • Iwata: Aw, come on, we just used your porn magazine for a pot holder. Heck, the gravy stains might even enhance the experience.
        [Sumiyoshi licks the magazine]
        Sumiyoshi: Soy sauce flavour…

    • NOTES (9)

      • (Fake) Credit to: Ms. Calvello's Wardrobe By Bindings For You!

      • When Excel (after being given a gun from Nabeshin) is spotted by the guerillas, she turns into a robot, and her heart literally jumps out of her chest. Excel's robot arms are the same as the arms in Getter Robo 2. Also, the character on Excel's heart is "doki", which can be the sound of a heartbeat or an expression of shock or surprise.

      • Today's Experiment...... Failed

      • The part where a train passes by Nabeshin holding a dying Tetsuko (even though the setting is in a rainforest) is a common (and very cliched) dramatic tool employed in many detective/yakuza/romantic story climaxes.

      • Tetsuko is based on Leiji Matsumoto, the creator of Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999 and Starship Yamato.

      • Puchuus sightings
        -at the rental store
-amongst the body bags containing the guerillas' victims.

      • The word game Excel and Tetchan play is Shiritori ("take the end"). Players take it turns to say a word beginning with the last syllable of the previous word. The game ends when players run out of words, or someone says a word that ends in 'n'.

      • All the 'B-movie' scenes are shown in widescreen.

      • Authorization: While renting a video in a video rental store, Koshi Rikdo gives his authorization to turn Excel Saga into a B-movie action flick.

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • The Sacrificial Lamb of the Venomous Great Escape of Hell: "The Toxic Avenger"
"Venomous" is a reference to the Japanese titles of "The Toxic Avenger".
