The Brood (Into the Heart of Darkness 2)

Season 1, Episode 11, Aired
EDIT

Episode Summary

Able Squad continues to flee from Neo sapien e-frames on Mars, and eventually they find shelter in a cave. Captain Marcus orders the ExoFleet to set a course for Earth, so that they can liberate it. Phaeton knows that the ExoFleet cannot withstand the Neos combined strength, and so he orders the Mars Fleet to Earth to assist (which results in the Neo frames halting their pusuit of Able Squad). The fleets engage near Earth, and the Neo sapiens are clearly victorious, inflicting devastating losses on the ExoFleet, whose few remaining ships attempt a withdrawal. The only Neo losses occurs when Marcus destroys the Resolute in the vicinity of many Neo capital ships, which are also destroyed. While covertly searching the Neo sapien complex, Alec and Marsala find thousands of brood chambers. The episode ends with Marsala sounding an alarm which brings Neo guards (who capture the two), demanding to see Phaeton, and declaring that he will save his people.moreless

Marcus's mutiny is sucessful having previously sent able squad to die on a bogus mission to the neo sapien stronghold of mars he gives all the fleet members who sided with the admiral the chance to fight in the coming conflict.although the deposed winfield thinks marcus' plan is suicide he encourages the crew to do there duty.
As predicted the exo fleet is pummeled only a few ships survive.Marcus elects to stay on the Resolute and rams the neosapien fleet with it.E frames tow the escape pods of the resolute away to Io and the remnates of the fleet withdraw.

~With thier numbers greatly reduced thanks to marcus' inabilty to count ,winfield reasons that thier only hope now lies with the pirate clans .Marsh is given the task of getting thier alliengace .Easier said than done i imaginemoreless

Omg! This is an amazing episode. It really highlights the tone of the series. The conflicts between officers and the differing opinions on the right way to lead the fleet adds a lot of realism to this show. This episode almost makes you forget that you're watching a cartoon as you are able to feel sympathy for some of the characters. Admiral Winfields character really shines in this episode and shows just how much humility he really has going as far as to support the mutinous Captain Marcus. And then there's the fantasic and ill fated battle between the exo-fleet and the neos all the while J.T. Marsh, who is left for dead by Marcus, is planning what seems to him a one way mission designed solely just to slow down the neos on Mars. His leadership quality and character also shines in this episode and you feel a great deal of emotion knowing that Marsh is willing as is his squad to sacrifice themselves all in the name of humanity to win the war. Their unselfish devotion to each other and the war really adds heart.

This episode also solidifies Marsh's good standing with Winfield as you can see both of their stories unfolding in parallel to each other as they struggle for good. The scene in which Marcus sacrifices himself is a powerful scene, the music also helps. Truly an emotional, action and character driven show.moreless
