A personal investigation by Deeyah Khan into the roots of Islamic radicalism in Britain, including interviews with former extremists who embraced hatred and waged jihad. The world has looked on aghast as thousands of young men and women have abandoned comfortable lives in the west to join the barbaric Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. In this film, activist and film-maker Deeyah Khan - who has herself faced threats from extremist fundamentalists - sets out to discover why the jihadi message is so compelling for some young westerners. She meets one of the godfathers of the British jihad, who went abroad to fight and preached extremism to thousands of young Muslims across the UK and the west. She also encounters young British Muslims who feel angry and alienated, facing discrimination, identity crises and rejection. But there are as well moments of insight and enlightenment, which offer hope and some possible answers to the complex situation in which Britain currently finds itself.moreless
