Milbridge, ME — The team renovate Brittany Ray and Ron Smith's home, which they claim is haunted.
  • Didn't watch, but know Ms. Ray

I just wanted to share because I have not seen this episode, nor do I ever want to. I lived in Washington County and went to the high school that Ms. Ray teaches at. I am a student with high functioning autism/aspergers and I honestly never felt more like I was looked at as a child than when I was in Ms. Ray's English class. All of my other teachers treated me like they treated the rest of my peers with, of course, the exception of my accommodations being followed. I am a very abled-bodied person with Autism; if you met me on the street, you would not know that I had autism at all. Ms. Ray was the only teacher I had had in high school who made me feel as though she thought I was almost ***ed.
And down rate my comment if you want, but I am not the only person who lived/lives in that area that is outraged. All of us that are outraged know that there are more deserving family in Washington County, Maine than the Ray-Smith's. They got a remodel over a ghost story and their son having autism/aspergers?...Don't the other episodes show family's that are living in like one bedroom houses with like 10 kids? Or family's who have lost jobs over a congenital disease? Or something like that?...Yeah, screw this. There are family's like THOSE in Washington County who could really use a revamp on their house...I almost think that most of those who weren't outraged, we just happy that they were getting national attention somehow...moreless
  • Greta episode on a great deserving family. They seem to be a loving family and a family that is appreciative and gives to others.

I loved this episode. The family was one that seemed like every day hard working educators. The family seemed to be full of love and appreciative of the special offer that came their way. They were certainly supporters of autism and special needs children. I liked how the show dealt with the issue of an after life or spirits without it seeming so farfetched. It just appeared to be a fact of life for this family. Nothing scary or spooky, just part of what they experienced. Extreme Makeover Home Edition - you did well in Maine. Way to go guys!!!moreless
  • Not the show that you would want to watch! Felt this family was undeserving no offense.

Really not the show that I would have wanted to watch. As there are more deserving families than that they deserve houses. Like the military families or house that are torn apart due to disease and other health things. But to do one that is haunted. I mean, give me a break. As the team need to do houses and families that are far, far, more deserving than this. No offense to the family but I felt that this family was just way, way, too undeserving to get a house. All due to the reason that it is haunted. I mean, give me a break.moreless
  • Ray-Smith family

    "Abysmal"
I live in Washington County Maine and can think of several hundred families who need home makeovers more than the Ray-Smith family. The local mill in Baileyville has laid off a couple of hundred employees in the poorest county in Maine. This family had both adults working with health insurance. This was the worst "Extreme makeover" I have seen. There is a Firefighter at the Calais fire dept. who has been diagnoised with Cancer. It has been his dream since he first joined the dept as an explorer, to be a firefighter. He has two small children. The fire dept recently re-roofed his home to keep it from leaking. They (the fire dept) provided his family with gifts for Christmas and have done several fund raising events from a hunters breakfast to shaving their heads to help out the Townsend family. I feel the Ray-Smith makeover was a poor excuse of a home makeover. I am truly disappointed in ABC. Was it the ghost angle that got their home redone? Shame on ABC and the Extreme Home Makeover team!moreless
  • Family lives in nice home, on a lake. Yeah, it could use some help, but two able bodied people with no physical ailments should be able to do that. A haunted house seems to be a lame reason to be on the show.moreless

I love this show and look forward to watching every week, but this week was disturbing and unnecessary. As a 17 year military wife, I personally know many families more deserving, that have lived through horrific times, experienced unexpected loss or sickness. This is a family that lives in a "haunted" house on a beautiful plot of land overlooking a lake. They seemed pleased, as they should, but unlike your past families, there was no emotion and alot of weird overtones. You guys can do better. If you're short on families, I'll gladly send you some names. Let's do better next week.moreless
