Despite Colonel von Zeppel's Prussian background, F Troop's resident German, Trooper Hoffenmueller, does not appear in this episode.
Edit
The opening scene in this episode showcases Ken Berry's talent for physical comedy with an extended sequence where he reads a letter while obliviously going around, through and over hazards in his path.
Edit
Col. von Zeppel: This fort lacks dicipline. In Prussia, things are different. If I order my men to march off a cliff, they march off a cliff!
Parmenter: Isn't that hard on them?
Col. von Zeppel: It's harder on me. I have to keep training new men.
Edit
O'Rourke: I'm glad they settled their differences like men -- in a poker game.
Agarn: Yeah, but I still say the Colonel cheated. I don't see how three kaisers can beat a royal flush.
Edit
Col. von Zeppel: (at duel) Vat is your choice of veapons?
Capt. Parmenter: How are you at arm wrestling?
Edit
The colonel's name, von Zeppel, is a reference to German airships, Zeppelins, made by the Zeppelin Company and pioneered by Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. The most famous of the Zeppelins was the ill-fated Hindenburg, which burned up while landing in Lakehurst, New Jersey in 1937.
