      • Pilar: What happened? Lance: Frank, is she alive? Frank: We don't know, whether if it's a heart attack or what. Lance: Oh, my goodness. Richard: Glad I was able to reach you. Lance: Thanks. Doctor: Who's the next of kin here? Richard: I'm her son. Frank: I'm her husband. Charley: We're all family here, doc. Frank: Just wait a minute! I'm sorry, what's the diagnosis? Doctor: Mrs. Channing slipped into a coma last night. We've checked up all of her vitals. Her heart's fine, she's not suffered a stroke. For some reason, there has been a lack of oxygen to the brain. My feeling now that it was an embolism, blood clot. Richard: What does it mean, doctor? Doctor: We have her hooked up to a life support system that we'll be watching her very carefully. And if I think you can, I like you all to stay close. We might have to make some very difficult decisions in the next 24 hours.

      • (Lance and Pilar both entering the hospital to ask the nurse to see if they can visit Angela, when the nurse asked both of them to wait with Angela's family in the waiting room) Lance: Excuse me, Angela Channing, where is she? Lance: (snatches the phone in front of the nurse's hand to find out about his ailing grandmother) Let me ask you again, where is Angela Channing? Nurse Natalie: In emergency, the waiting room is down the hall. You're not going to believe what was going on!

      ADD NOTES
      • In this episode, while at work, Lance received a disturbing phone call about his grandmother Angela Channing's health concerns. Both he and Pilar wanted to visit her, but the nurse had told him that they must wait with her family while Angela is in the emergency room. In real-life, Lorenzo Lamas (Lance), David Selby (Richard), William R. Moses (Cole), Rod Taylor (Frank) & Susan Sullivan (Maggie) all paid a visit to Jane Wyman (Angela) in the hospital.

      • Wendy Phillips joins the regular cast.

      • German episode title: "Familienbande", meaning "Family Ties".

      • This is actually the first (and only) season that actress Jane Wyman (Angela) doesn't appear in almost every episode throughout the season despite her health problems in early 1989. She will be back in Episode 211, and returning to the show in Episode 225, 14 episodes later, against her doctor's advice.

      • Angela's grandson, Lance didn't come to visit her at the hospital, at all. In fact, for almost a year, he didn't go to the hospital until Episode 225, when he & Pilar wanted to go see Angela, but disappears from the hospital after they received word that she woke up from her coma.

      • Jane Wyman does not appear in this episode.
