Not really a surprise with the 5.9M viewers watching the premiere. It'll be interesting to see how much the ratings decline if the quality stays the same as it has been so far - or if by some miracle the second season gets better.

Speak for yourself, it is not a matter of canceling the show. All it needs is a lot of improvement. Come on Spielberg, we know you can do better.

The whole show is typical Spielberg, if you don't like this you don't like Spielberg, full stop.

We've been watching it & don't find it that bad of a series. Personally, I'd like to see what they can do in a 2nd season.

I'm finding it a little boring. I just hope more happens to keep me watching.

Honestly, this show is much better than the last alien show, V. That was pretty much trash compared to Falling Skies; I'm looking forward to Season 2.

As for complaints about the show's slow pace...

It picked up over the last handful of episodes. It wasn't fast-paced action, but faster than the start of the series at least.

I'm ok with a show starting at a slow pace to set the story, then speeding up a little. And I'm also ok with a slow pace so long as the story moves along a little.

The first season was fairly short, but by the end I think they covered a decent amount... assuming they want the show to continue for multiple seasons.

Wait WHAT? They did not still cancel this fracking mess? What the hell is wrong with people today?

Half of plot sounds and feels like a cheap half life 2 fanfic, other half of plot is the traditional values kitsch of children freedom and history and whatever left is special effects. And there are enough viewers to warrant the existence of this mess?

Because it has the words Steven Spielbierg behind it.

At least it was a solid season finale so I'm going to stay optimistic for a better season 2.

The best thing about this show is that it isn't rushed, so many shows have been rushed just to please (so they think) the audience, what people don't realise is for a show to last it needs to have solid foundations, and this is what I believe they are actually trying to do, not only are we starting to get to know the resistance fighters/soldiers, we are also getting to know their families as well. How many times have we been disappointed after watching a movie because it isn't anything like the book, for once I believe we are seeing what the writers want us to see, I suppose it helps if the producers are also the writers...no brainer really.

I agree, Falling Skies took its time with it in a way The Event never did and it told the kind of cohesive storyline that V wasn't able to deliver.

The show mahe have flaws but that's not one of them.

Who in their right mind would want this cancelled? We finally have a good storied Sci-Fi to watch and really put ourselves into the story and people are calling for the Hatchet. God people when a show gets the Axe you cry they don't give shows a chance and now they are actually doing a great job and giving the show a real chance to be something special and and people cry, my god just don't watch it if you don't like it but don't ruin it for everyone else because this is what gets good shows cancelled, Bad Press and crying fans as well as low ratings and thank god we don't have Low ratings or bad Press only a minority of crying fans because this show is a Gem IMO!

I like it. I don't LOVE it, but I like it. And considering how little sci-fi there is on TV I'd rather it stick around than go away.

But I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea.

On one hand the show teasers made it come across as an alien invasion series, but on the other hand the show focused more on the people / their families / their hope / interpersonal struggles / etc. That probably turned off the people that wanted action and those that wanted more sci-fi and less ordinary stuff.

The pacing started out slower, some felt too slow. It sped up some and ended with a great couple of episodes, but some people made up their minds before that happened.

Does anyone know if season 2 is planned for this year, or weŽll have to wait to 2012?
