Episode 9
AIRED:
Saturday morning in the Academy, and as usual, the students review their Friday-night performances. Pippa's is highly praised by Carrie, who claims it was a "fine television performance". But, Katie is horrified as she watches her own solo, in which she missed some notes. Carrie tells her what she already knows - she had performed the song much better in rehearsals during the week. Lemar's performance doesn't need any criticism, however! Later that day, Richard and Carrie talk privately, and agree that it was sad to see Chris leave the Academy, but add that Katie does have potential as an artist. Some of the other students also show that they are sad to be without Chris - in a quiet moment, Ainslie talks to himself, saying that it was ridiculous for Chris to be the second student to be voted out. David, who is still trying to catch up to the other students, gets his first one-on-one vocal lesson. He manages to hit some difficult high notes, to Carrie's delight. Carrie tells David that she needs to find the full body of his voice, but is overall quite impressed. On Sunday morning, Kevin leads the hardest dance class yet - "It's Sunday morning and there's nowhere else you'd rather be!" he screams as the students get started. After his lesson, Kevin talks to the Head Teacher about the students' performances this week - and Kevin says what's on the mind of some of the other teachers - Katie is just in the Academy for socialising. The students get a new challenge from song-writing teacher, Pam, later that day. They are to be split into three groups, given the backing track of a song, and must work on the lyrics and melody for it. Ainslie admits privately to Malachi at dinner, that today has been the day he has felt most competitive. He reveals that he doesn't really mind who can sing or dance better than him, but he cares about song-writing! As usual, Monday is grade day. Ainslie gets the week's Grade A award, after writing a good song and performing well all week. The probationers are also announced; Katie, who didn't perform so well on Friday; David, who still needs to catch up to the other students; and Camilla, who also didn't show much improvement on Friday. All three will sing for survival on Friday. Katie is devastated at the news, and is comforted by Pippa, the Academy's probation expert! But, Ainslie is celebrating. As reward for being Grade A, he'll be going to the Q Awards, and chooses to take Malachi with him. Pam announces the song-writing results - Nigel, Lemar and Camilla produced the best song. But, the other groups are jealous, and criticise the song that the winning group wrote severely. The rivalries in the Academy are clearly beginning to show. Probation is harder on Katie this week, and she sits miserably in the girls' bedroom. Marli tells her that she sings like an angel, but Katie is firm, saying that she has "done crap every since she came" to the Academy. And at the end of the day, it's clear that Malachi and Ainslie enjoyed the Q Awards a little too much, as they come home extremely drunk.moreless
