Cissy gets a proposal of marriage by a nice, handsome young man from Vienna. Karl is from one of the oldest families of Europe, and his parents approve of the arrangement, but Bill does not. Though his parents feel the two are of the right age, Bill fells Cissy, at 16, is too young. He wonders if he isn't being too strict. He asks Mr. French what he thinks, and French says he trusts Bill's judgment, but comes off, at least to this writer, as if he thinks Bill ought to reconsider. The boy's mother visits Bill at his office and urges him to at least let Cissy visit Vienna, and after hesitating, he agrees, but wonders if she'll even come back. In Vienna, she is treated like royalty by the nobility, but when Karl suggests they elope, she proves more mature than he by saying no, they ought to respect their parents' ( including Bill's) wishes. The twins, who also fear Cissy won't be back, open their eyes to see her back in their apartment, and they remain a family.moreless
