I think it started in 'Fifteen Minutes of Shame' when they had a cut away interview of Stewie and he was acting out of character for a breif moment. Back then, that was funny. But I quess the writers were distracted by this and decided to use Stewie out of character all he time, which is not funny any more.

That's one of the problems with family Guy Today, almost all the main characters are out of community from when the show when it started. They were good characters but they all melted into stereotypic roles in any basic half-bake sitcom.

Lois was to be the responsible and smart parent, now she's confused with today's issues and reckless with various duties, like she was a thrill seeker and the mayor.

Peter was the dumb but loving Dad who uses his crazy schemes to help his family, but now he's just stupid who acts on impulse.

Meg was the stock up teenage daughter who happens to be the only normal one in the Family like Marylin from the Munsters, but now she is treated as a mistake made by the characters that they can't get rid of  so they just wail on her.

Brain was kinda like Peter's Conscious, giving him good advice or fair warning (usually in the form of a snappy come-back) before Peter goes off and does something stupid while being the smartest one in the house. But now he has low self esteem and became more preachy Rather than witty.

The only one who hasn't really changed is Chris.

After listening to the commentaries for the last two volumes i've started to hate Seth Macfarlane. All he does is curse, repeat himself, and push his views into the show (in an ultimately un-funny way).

and lets not forget his limited voice acting as the 1 random guy in a scene who has a joke. or that he uses the same voice for Carter and Dr. Hartman. The same is true for Seth Green. Watch 4 or 5 Robot Chicken (which is a good show) episodes and try to find his voice. He's in every sketch. With 4 or 5 different ones.

Zonehero was right about the main characters 100%. Lois was the voice of reason but now she is self-absorbed and vacuous and Brian is no longer the smart one.

I agree about them over-using the flashback gags, almost to the point that they are never funny anymore. I know they are a staple of the show, but they should just try to abandon that crutch for a little while. They might end up with a much better episode because of it. I agree for the most part that the show isn't as good as it used to be, but I'm not sure it's really fair to say the characters have completely degraded and the plots have fallen apart. Because honestly, this show has never had particularly amazing plots and the characters have always been a little one-dimensional (except for maybe Stewie). They just used to be funnier.

There's an episode in season 2 that somehow explains why he stopped trying to kill his mother, he got a bit soft after an event. (perhaps too soft)

Has Seth McFarlane ever actually BEEN to Austin for more than 5 minutes?

For God's sakes, no one is religiously intolerant in Austin, He's just trying to be a jerk.

Oh wait, what does the summary say? Oh, i know what it says: "Sick, twisted, politically incorrect..."

That's more like an Ad slogan, like 'World's Best Cofeffe. And if that was true, it would be the first season that would be poltitcally Incorrect, like the episode that had Peter and Chris trying to get their car back from that Native American casino. Buto think about it, what is  the meaning of 'poltically correct' anyway?

Right, I personal feel like one of the problems with the Fifth Season is that they were too serious with their satire instead of being cartoony satire that they used to, like the episode about Peter being president of a Tobacco Company when they bought the Toy company.

Stewie isn't the same Stewie, he is just not as funny as he used to be. I wish they would show him with same lasers or something like he used to, and have him with less gay moments. Lois' voice is just horrible.

So, let me get this straight. YOU guys want the characters to stay the exact same through the entire series. NO DEVELOPEMENTS, NO CHANGES, AND NOTHING DIFFERENT ABOUT THEM? The characters changing is called developement. It what make shows interesting. What is if Zuko never changed in Avatar the Last Airbender, what if Jesse had never changed in Full House, and most importantly, what if these characters never changed? That would make them flat and static characters. The show would not be interesting or cool at all. Lois is straying from her "mid aged house-wife" thing. That's developement. If not, she just be there in every episode doing the same thing but in different fromats. Of couse sometimes they are gonna get new voices. People quit, get fired, die, or other things.Meg's voice changed early on, but that kinda went on without any hate mail. Besides, they will probably change things up in the next on coming seasons. Too many flashbacks? That's what Family Guy is about, that's what makes us laugh. Tell me this, do they use so many, that you can't even watch the episode. Unless you don't know this show at all, the anser is NO. So, what if everything stayed the same, same things but in different formats every episode. You would all be worse than you are now about it. Family Guy has never, EVER been afraid to "GO THERE" and that is what makes them great. At least by the 7th season, they will all change again. I believe its a 3 season cycle. Then you will all complain about that. So what do you really complain about? You complain about this show's ORIGINALLITY, CHARACTER DEVELOPEMENTS, NOT BEING THE SAME OLD THING OVER AND OVER BUT IN DIFFERNET FROMANTS. Basically, you're saying you don't like it when they make some changes which are supposed to be original and keep the show interesting!

Look, Brady, I'm all for character development. Some of my favourite shows like Scrubs and Supernatural have had their characters develop into much more complex personalities. But there is a big difference between development and a complete personality change. No matter what happens, the character they start off as remains clear so watching episodes out of order will still have people relate to characters the same way but between season 3 and 4:

Stewie went from an evil genius with a subtle feminine side to a flat out homosexual who insults people. This isn't development, because he's hardly recogniseable from the character he started out as

Peter went from a moron who loves his family but makes stupid decisions to a retard that has the intelligence of a five year old and kicks seats who abuses his daughter. This could be considered development but it also shows another problem wit the show - losing their intelligent edge and now Peter can say any nonsensical thing so the writers need not use imagination to have hilarious stupid line that takes a smart person to think of.

Brian has gone from an alcoholic dog with views on the world to an excuse for the show to put forth its political views, having Brian be quite hypocritical from what he was in the early seasons.

Meg has gone from an ignored child who wishes to be popular to a spiteful teenager and the show's punching bag who all the characters hate.

Lois - don't get me started, I'll go on forever.

Chris is the one character that hasn't completely changed his personality but he's barely on the show anymore.

Even the minor characters like Quagmire, my favourite, has gone from a hilarious pervert and still is for the most part but now he does some ridiculous dance or song whenever he makes a sex joke which isn't funny or developing.

Other characters are overused, the Evil Monkey always doing the same joke, but Herbert is the worst. Every time he's on the screen, you know he's going to make a joke about molestation, so the joke doesn't surprise you and every time he appears on screen it's the same context- and it was barely funny to begin with. And they insist on putting him in every episode.

I'm not against character development, it's just that Family Guy just running off track. They're having most of the characters to just change. period. A gay Stewie is funny for episode or two per season, not for an entire season. But still, there is no reason for these characters changes except for how they're being written by the writers and Seth himself. And have you ever heard of M*A*S*H? It started out as a comedy but ended up as Drama. Some shows started out like that and ended the same way, like the Drew Carey Show. That show started out with basic sitcom jokes that made it good, then it was drag out and alot of changes happened in the last season and became less funny. To me, at least, Family Guy is trying to be more like South Park, but being more about dragged out low brow jokes wather than being about the plot. I don't hate low brow comdey, they just use to much of it. And when it's not a dragged out joke, they used dragged out dialouge, like when Lois whacked Peter with a frying pan in Mother Tucker, they should have just cutway after Lois whacked Peter. I luaghed at dragged dialouge between Zod and Superman in that flash back in 'Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire' (now THAT episode had character devolpement.) because it was approreate at the time, unlike the countless other times they used it in the show, like with 'Cool Whip and Cool Hwhip' in Barely Legal.

Though I admire your dedication as a fan of the show, but the fact of the matter is that Family Guy is not a serious anime show like Avatar, or a 'real life' show like Full House. It's just a cartoon that makes people laugh with a little moral that everyone learns. The show has taken some wrong turns, and as fans. We need to show the makers of the show the flaws of the newer season. Not a total revamp, of course, but just some small things. Like, Meg being treated better by everyone. Less pointless dialogue, especially ones with Herbert and his dog, like the scene at the Aquarium in Bill and Peter's Bogus Journey. Stuff like that.

I mean no disrespect to your opinion.

enough of the songs...they aren't funny anymore...and they're getting lazy with 'em too. They were classic back in the day, and they actually had something to do with continuing the plot, but now they are just annoying time-wasters cause they can't think of anything else.

Family Guy's really dropped the ball this past season...
