  • Almost perfect but funny episode

At Chris' soccer game, Peter gets into a fight with a woman, that he thought was a man, and punches her in the face. After being placed under house arrest, Peter becomes restless and ends up turning the basement into a full bar. Lois begins singing each night and becomes the main attraction. Meanwhile, Stewie creates a time machine in order to avoid teething pain, but ends up taking back much more than that. Another funny episode. My score is lower because a couple parts lacked funny moments. Other than that, I really the story to it, especially Stewie's. Another prove why I liked the old Stewie better. I rather see him criticize Lois than to have that gay obsession with Brian. Parts I laughed at were the opening ("Must kill Lincoln."), Lois' dream, Stewie making a machine that his teeth can't hurt, Peter punching a woman (who looks like a man and is pregnant), cutaway where Peter looks for his sock in Narnia, the part with Ernie and Bert, Peter making a bar at the basement, the people praising Lois' singing, and a few more. I LOL'd the most at the ending, by the way. Overall, a superb episode. 9.5/10

What I Liked- Peter figuring out the 'man' he punched was really a woman, the ending with Stewie's time machine inadvertently saving Peter and Lois from dying, the scene in the grocery store, Stewie being drunk, amonst other things.

Pretty good. I was never crazy about the ending to this episode, but upon rewatching it recently, it did not bother me a lot. Funny episode, A+
  • Despite it being a little boring in a couple of scenes, this was an excellent episode of "Family Guy"

Not my favorite Season 1 episode but it was pretty close and I liked it for the most part. The storyline was thought out very well and it was very creative. A lot of parts in this episode made me laugh hard such as when Peter punched that man (who turned out to be a woman) at Chris' soccer game, Cleveland saying "Oh, that's nasty" when he and Quagmire were at the pool, and some more. My score was only a tad low because I felt like a couple of parts were a little boring. Oh yeah!!! I also enjoyed the very ending and Stewie's storyline when he wanted to make a time machine was original and funny. Overall, an excellent episode of "Family Guy". 9.5/10
  • Not the best of the season, but it was still funny.

    9.0
    "Superb"

Overall, I thought this was another hilarious episode, although it wasn't my favorite episode of season 1. The plot was very creative, and it had its share of funny moments like Peter doing the laundry, Peter punching that man in the bar, and the Sesame Street parody. I also thought the dog hanging from the ceiling was hilarious. However, in the second half, it started to get a little boring and didn't have that much humor. I did like the ending, though, with Stewie getting his teeth and biting his tongue, although that was also kinda weird to me. For the most part ,though, this was another great episode, although definitely not one of my favorites. Final grade: B+. Marebear2009, out!

    Grade: A*

So this episode of Family Guy was amazing! With the use of time travel to building some relationship tension between Peter and Lois, Mind Over Murder manages to deliver a fantastically paced plot with funny jokes that worked all the time. My personal favourite is the one where Peter punches the Man-Woman in the face and says "You mean, he's going into labour?" haha! I just love how this episode ends with Peter and Lois stuck in a fire and being really emotional and stuff, and the irony of Stewie rewinding time and accidently saving Peter and Lois causes Peter to forget everything and never becoming a changed man. It just goes to show how much Family Guy changed over the years, and unfortuantly not for the best, but Mind Over Murder is the first episode of the show which does everything right in my opinion, and its definatly in my top 10 episodes of all-time.

  • Best episode so far.

This episode is brilliant if you could watch any episode of family guy in season one i recomend this one it's packed with jokes bouncing against the walls trying to get out it's that funny. Stewie has a toothache because he's teething and trys to make a time machine to speed up the process meanwhile After dropping Chris off at a football(soccer) game Peter knocks out a woman that looks like a man because she was horrible to Chris and because of this Peter is under house arrest. To stop the boredom Peter builds a bar in his basement so all his friends can go there instead in the end lois starts singing there which makes peter mad.
  • After knocking out a woman he thought was a man, Peter is placed under house arrest. As if that wasn't enough, he then gets more than he bargained for when his attempts to reconnect with his friends lead to Lois becoming a nighttime singing sensation!

Ah yes, the early Family Guy years. Currently, it can be argued the show's falling into the same trap as The Simpsons did 8 years ago; viewing these seasons reflects on how great it's been.

This episode was hilariously done, with somewhat realistic portrayals of Lois' stress at doing all the housework, and shows Peter for the slob he is. Yes I realize it's sick stuff, but really, does anyone not laugh when the crowd reacts to Peter's punching the rude "man?"

And I just crack up every time I see this one. Really, it's just such a brilliant plot; Peter building a bar in his basement while under house arrest, and all the family conflicts that ensue. I particularly like the Bert and Ernie parody - I swear, I just about die laughing every time that's on the screen.

Also enjoyable - to a certain extent - was Stewie's issue with his teething. While I understand what that's like - and aren't fond of such humor normally - what made me laugh here was his scheme to create a time machine to surpass it all, and his becoming drunk in the bar. C'mon, Stewie, you're the life of the party!

This episode is strongly recommended to anyone who likes Family Guy's style of humor - particularly the style present in the first two seasons. Unless you think it wasn't as funny back then, that is. 8.5 out of 10
  • Barbra streisand?

    9.8
    "Superb"
Lois as Barbra Streisand? Who would have guessed she's such a good singer? Well, after Peter Griffin accidentally punches a pregnant woman that looks like an overweight man, not an overweight pregnant woman, he is on house arrest. He wants to stay with his friends so he skips a fancy dinner with his wife to build a bar after a vision. Well, things go haywire when the wife of mens are angry at them for oggling Lois who is singing her heart out and having fun.

This was a great episode. It was super funny. What also happens is that Stewie builds a time machine which is very helpful at the end of the episode, saving the lives of Lois and Peter I guess. Amazing. Stewie did all that.
  • One of my favourate epsidoes of all time

    "Perfect"
One of my favourate epsidoes of all time. The opening scene of a man eating "Mintos" before shooting another man at the theater parodies the candy, Mentos (its commercial, jingle, and the candy itself), and the assassination of American President Abraham Lincoln. Stewie is in terrible pain from teething and cannot find comfort anywhere. When Lois tells him that his pain will ultimately pass, it gives him the idea to build a machine that will move time forward to the point where his teething will have already stopped; he plans to call it a "Time Machine". Meanwhile, Peter drives Chris to his soccer game, where he gets into a fight with another parent who insulted Chris for his playing ability. He punches the parent, who Peter then realizes is not a man, as he had assumed, but rather a masculine-looking and sounding pregnant woman.

Peter is put under house arrest for assault and soon finds that he misses his friends. Peter has a vision of the Pawtucket Patriot from his beer bottle label and opens a bar in his basement (a nod to Field of Dreams) so that his friends can come to visit and hang out with him. Pawtucket Ale and its mascot, Pawtucket Pat, are a take off on Samuel Adams, a popular brand of beer in New England. It isn't long before the basement bar becomes a local hotspot. One of the songs first heard at Ye Old Pube is "You'll Never Know." When Lois discovers this, she's upset, but then she gets a chance to sing on stage before an adoring crowd. As she savors the spotlight over the next few days, Peter becomes increasingly uncomfortable with all the attention she's getting, especially from the male patrons. Later Lois sings "Steam Heat" from The Pajama Game, "Don't Rain on My Parade" from Funny Girl, and Al Jolson's "You Made Me Love You."

Meanwhile, Stewie's time machine plans are discovered, causing him to panic about the breach of security. In a clear move to protect the plans, he uses the machine to go back in time before his plans were actually found. But he reverses time just as Peter is having an epiphany about how poorly he treats Lois and seconds before the basement bar goes up in flames. Stewie even manages to back time up to before Chris's soccer game, followed by Peter tripping on and destroying the time machine. Now Peter is unable to take Chris to soccer, and Stewie is left to suffer with teething pain with his two talking teeth waging a war against each other but shortly after since they can't move decide to bite Stewie's tongue MY fav refrence was Homicide: Life on Sesame Street a parody of Seasame street and Homocide life on the streets,

Mind Over Murder is an excellent episode of Family Guy. It was so good and very well written. It's exactly why I watch the show! There were so many hilarious moments! I liked a lot of Stewie and Peter's quotes. And the over all story line was really really great. Peter being put under house arrest and then starting a bar in his basement! Hilarious! Then Lois sort of gets her revenge on him. And Stewie was absolutely hysterical and evil as always. This episode is just really awesome! I love Mind Over Murder! It's a fine example of how good Family Guy is!
  • How 'bout a little 'me' time?

Ah what a wonderful episode. If you don't already know by now, episodes like these –the classy, witty and musically jazzy- are my all time favourites of Family Guy. It also marks an important shift in the production of the series with such things as Quagmire & Cleveland being Peter's best friends, Lois being a suppressed housewife, and the sound and animation getting a whole lot closer to the standard of today's episodes. What's surprising about this however is that this episode was actually produced before 'Chitty Chitty Death Bang', which I found to be far more degraded than 'Mind over Murder'.

The laughs and plot this time around are back to a fantastic standard, maybe not being as complex as the previous storylines, but nevertheless still as engaging. Most of the gags are also quite original for the series and are definite classics, paving the way for inspiration for the series' later writers. Indeed, Donovan and Goldman do a great job here, creating an episode that is appealing both to the funny bone and to the brain.

Perhaps what I loved most about 'Mind over Murder' though was its brilliant soundtrack and direction from Roy Allen Smith (who sadly has yet to return to the show) who creates the atmosphere of Peter's bar wonderfully, making it one of the most memorable and attractive episodes to date. We also get a small glimpse of Stewie as he will evolve in later seasons, even though it's because he accidentally gets drunk on whiskey. I have to admit to enjoying 'new Stewie' more than the 'evil Stewie' of these early episodes. Indeed, I actually enjoy all of the series' characters more in recent seasons, but what tends to make these classic episodes superior in my opinion, is how the writers and directors know what to do with the characters they have to create brilliant stories full of original jokes. 'Mind over Murder' is a testament to that thought, and it's a testament to all that is masterful about Family Guy.

After the openign scenes inwchich chris got into a brawl with a lady that looks like ma guy,Peter stayed home and transformed a basement into a bar. when Lois went down there, she grabbed a mike and began to sing. One of the reason why i like Lois is because she is very sexy and this episode proves it. Whe she sang on stasge I couldn't take my eyes off her. she is the reason why I giving this episode a 9. Now that the show is in synication, I watching the early episodes of the Tv show. Now that's cool.
  • Peter goes under house arrest when he punches a pregnant woman at Chris's soccer game. Peter builds a bar in his basement to pass the time.

All I have to say is this episode had some very funny moments. I was on the ground when Peter was telling a jews joke and asian jokes. So he checks the bar to see if there any jews and asians and he sees about 20 of each of them and he tells the joke anyway. Then another part I loved was when Chris was playing his soccer game he actually caught the soccer ball even though he wasn't the goalie and then he acted like he didn't do anything wrong. Another good part was when when Stewie was drunk and he's trying to hit on a girl and it actually works. Another good part was when we find out that Chris is the bouncer for the bar and Chris asks Lois for her Id. It was just another funny episode of Family Guy.

Let me start off by saying this episode is brilliant. If you watch this you will laugh your socks off all the way through. And is truthul to later episodes of the series in many ways. 1.It has several musical numbers in it.

    2.It has great jokes like:

a)peter punching a pregnant woman he thought was a guy.

b)Stewie's teeth sprouting away from eachother than trying to fight eachother by wriggling.

c)A sureal ending that gets the characters out of a sticky situation(stewie using his newly built time machine device, inaveradtly saving Peter and Lois from burning in their basement.

d)Peter asking the ghost of Pawtucket Pat(the spokesman for a beer company)If he walked through him does that mean they did it.

    3.Lois looking extremely hot.

    4.Being great!

    I love this episode.

I think that this episode is one of the best episodes that I have ever see, I think that at the end was the funniest of all, because it actually showed Peter actually learning something and learning from his mistakes, but thanks to Stewie's time machine, Peter didn't go to the soccer game and never learned his lesson, and now with that the episode ends, and I think that with this episode it was really cool, what they did and everything and I think that this episode is one of the best episodes!
  • This is a sweet episode.

Lois is hot in this episode. It is so funny.

Peter is being really selfish. He is treating Lois like a slave. He finally takes Chris to a soccer game. When he's there a girl that looks like a guy is making fun of Chris. Peter punched her in the face becuase he thought is was a guy and she went into labor. As a result he got house arrest. Meanwhile Stewie is teething. He decides to make a time machine so he can fast forward until he is done teethng. Peter was really bored so he decided to make a bar. A bunch of people came to the bar and Lois has to do a bunch of dishes. Then Peter asks Lois if she could make about one hundred crab ckes. Lois is getting realy mad so Peter let her to play the piano for everyone in the bar. Peter told everyone to clap no matter how bad it was. All the guys liked it. They liked it even more because she wore slutty clothes. She was basically naked. She plays everynight. More and more guys start showing up. One guy takes Stewie's time machine blueprints and shows them to everyone. Stewie is mad. A bunch of wifes come becuase they are mad at Lois for being basically a striper. Lois tells the wifes what Peter treats her like. They understand. Quagmire is bored becuase Lois stoped singing so he decides to leave. He tosses his cigarette butt. It lands in some vodka in the trash. The whole bar catches on fire. Everyone gets out except for Peter an Lois. They are about to catch on fire, then Stewie finishes the time machine. He turns the time backwards, before everybody seen his blueprints. Lois and Peter were saved from the fire. The time went back to when Peter was about to go take Chris to his soccer game. Peter stepped on Stewie's time machine and said his foot hurt to much to go to the soccer game. He made Lois do that to. Stewie just gave up on his plans to build a time machine. Everything was back to normal.

    I give this episode a 9.5 out of 10.

Ah, what a great episode. It kicks off with a Mentos parody involving Lincoln and Booth. After that Peter is hypnotized into killing Lincoln. Then Peter goes to Chris’ game. Peter punched a man who is really a woman. He was then sentenced to house arrest. After a Field of Dreams moment, he decides to build a bar in his basement. Stewie is suffering from teething, he then decides to build a time machine to skip through the teething pain. Hehehe, one of my favorite episodes. I was suprise that it had to be cancelled in 2000, I think. Thank goodness it came back.
  • You mean he's going into labour

This episode is probably my favourite episode from season one as it has everything you'd expect from a family guy episode.

A hilarious invention by Stewie Griffin (time machine), an unexpected plot twist(the guy Peter punched isn't really a guy), Peter Griffin making a ridiculously stupid decision (starting a bar in the basement) and one of the funniest endings in television history.

The ending is hilarious because the whole episode literally never happened and Peter never learnt that valuable lesson.

Both Peter and Stewie's plot was great from the melons and hooters to the blueprints and this episode is where the series really started to shine.
  • Peter goes to Chris' soccer game, he punches a woman he thought was a man(so did most of us). Under house arrest, Peter turns the basement into a bar and Lois ends up taking over. Stewie attempts to create a time machine to avoid teething pain.

    10

We'd all have to agree that Peter should not have been at fault for hitting that...woman. I don't mean the fact that it was a woman, I think that any person could've made that mistake. This show, although mostly about Lois taking over, has its moments. For example, Ye Olde Pube is changed to Ye Old Pube, when most of us thought he would get rid of the "e" on Pube but thats Peter Griffen for you.
  • I just spent all morning on a boat with my friends drinking beers, telling jokes and screwing around. How about a little "me" time?

    9.3
    "Superb"
This is one of my favourite episodes that Family Guy has made. It starts off with a great start, and finished spectacularly.

In this episode, Peter comes home after a long day of fishing with his buddies, and is forced to take Chris to a soccer game. At the game, Peter punches out a lady (who everyone thought was a man), and is put under house arrest. (One of the best parts of the episode is Bert and Ernie in Homicide on Sesame Street.) He then creates a bar in his basement where Lois sings in, and it becomes a big hit, although the other wives disapprove.

Many small jokes in this episode make it my favourite, such as Bert and Ernie, Narnia, Lois' melons and hooters and Peter's bookcase escape.

If you were to watch one episode of Family Guy, make it this one- you won't be disappointed.
  • Peter gets placed under house arrest after punching a pregnant woman and causing her to go into labor. He subsequently opens a bar in his basement where Lois begins to sing nightly.

    9.5
    "Superb"
I love this episode. I especially like Lois' song (I got ssssssssteam heat...) and like .01% of the population, I know where its from. Anywho. This episode kinda laid the groundwork for the later episode, "I Am Peter, Here Me Roar". Also, they joke about in "Da Boom" when Peter is about to throw Lois down the stairs and asks, "Are you pregnant?" Not many people catch that joke. A classic, above the average episode for this series.
