After Chris is expelled from school, he is sent to a boarding school that his grandfather Carter attended, but Chris doesn't exactly fit in. Meanwhile, the chicken returns to pick a fight with Peter.

I didn't like this episode, the atmosphere was very boring and bland, and the chicken fight was boring.

  • I loved this episode, but what was the point of the chicken fight?

This was a fantastic episode! The scenes with Stewie playing the tuba were so hilarious! The only thing I didn't like was the chicken fight. I mean, what was the point of that? I keep thinkng it was to add some humor to the ep, but I'm also assuming it was to take up time. It was random, pointless, and unnecessary. Plus, it kind of took away from the main plot, which was Chris being expelled from school. I think the episode would have been much better without the fight. Otherwise, I really liked it (the episode)! I want to give it a ten, but because of the unnecessary fight, I'll give it an 8.5.
  • Season 5, Episode 16.

Chris is expelled from school for being the stupidest student in the school and so their funding can be increased. LMAO, I loved the beginning! Stewie: A lot of supermodels are anorexic, and it seems to be working for them, so, yeah... Hippity Hippity Hop...

LMAO! And Meg has pot connections! Ah, and at last, another chicken fight!!!! I loved when the chicken screamed for the first time, and then went they fell into the sewer... Then on the train! Hehe. LMAO I loved when they knocked the train operator out and the train ran him over! Haha, Seth MacFarlane is awesome at creating these fight scenes. It was choreographed excellently, and it was very long and entertaining. LMAO! I like how they made up and started fighting again over who paid the bill! Genius! The chicken is still alive though! It would be cool if he died, though. Good episode, definitely. :)
  • One of the better episodes of this season to be sure.

Lois takes the family out to the ballet on a late school night. As Chris studies at the breakfast table for an upcoming exam later that day, Brian notices that Chris's history textbook is hopelessly out of date (published in 1896 in the Adult Swim version of the show, 1948 in the Fox version). Upset by this, Lois goes to a PTA meeting to complain. Principal Shepherd explains that the school cannot afford new textbooks; as a result of the No Child Left Behind Act, the school has lost its federal funding due to low test scores. His solution for raising the school's performance average is to expel the dumbest student, who happens to be Chris.

After several failed attempts to find another school for Chris (and an extremely long intermission featuring Peter and the Giant Chicken), Lois asks her father, Carter, to use his influence to get Chris admitted to the upper-class Morningwood Academy. Carter agrees, on the condition that Peter humiliate himself by starring in a shot-by-shot remake of Liar Liar.

Chris is shunned by the wealthy, snobbish, privileged students at the academy. After hearing his plight, Lois asks her father to help him, who invites him to become a member of Skull and Bones with the other students, who eventually come to accept him. The Griffins, meanwhile, have all taken extra jobs to pay for Chris' tuition; Peter is selling "butt scratchers" at the ballpark, Lois and Meg are working as prostitutes (though Lois is obviously the more successful of the two), and Stewie is following fat people while playing "The Air Is Getting Slippery" on a tuba.

Feeling his family shouldn't go through so much trouble to keep him satisfied, Chris asks Carter to help him get back into his old school. Carter complies, and Chris moves back home.

  • Mr. Rogers!

As a teacher in the public school system, I understand the frustrations that many have with No Child Left Behind. While it is not the only factor, testing does indeed influence curriculum. Furthermore, private school tuition is ridiculous. It costs as much as college and, depending on the student, provides little added benefit. Because of this, I thought the premise of the show was funny.

But right in the middle of all this, we have a random chicken fight which did nothing for me. It wasn't funny to me and I fastforwarded right through it. The shining moments came with the short bits. Mr. Roger's king made an appearance. I felt a heartstring tug as I remembered. Sniff, Sniff. The funniest appearance award goes to Mr. Herbert, the old man. I still smile at the Paperboy answering machine bit. A founding father Hancock became Footpenis. I can't wait until a student uses that line. I won't be able to hold in my laughter. All in all, I still laughed of course but just not as much.

I didn't very much like this episode. I was kinda looking forward to the chicken fight. It was good, but it was just to much of a time filler, and it made the writer forget about the true plot. Don't forget about the appearance of Herbert, only the 15th millionth appearance in a row. It was a disappointment to me.
  • Why's this badly rated?

    "Superb"
This episode was sooooo funny when they did the Liar Liar remake, I forgot about that bit at the end of his sentence when he runs out of breath when he says "Speeding" that was hilarious! I don't know why this is so poorly rated by the people before me I thought the chicken fight was good because they forgot what they were fighting about, and they referred to the coupon that the chicken gave him that has expired that led to their first fight. Another great episode in my opinion and very funny yet again! The Chris' eye thing was discusting though!
  • No Underused Gag Left Behind

    4.3

After a night at the ballet(complete with an overly-long, underly-funny texting joking), the family finds that Chris's(yeah remember him) school textbooks are pre-1950s. Lois decides to complain at the next PTA meeting and as a result Chris is expelled to boost test scores and funding and joins Morningwood Academy. In-between this Peter fights the chicken which I'll get to later. After the long chicken fight, nobody really cared about the Chris plot anymore but for the record there's a knock on the 'Skull and Bones' club, which by proxy is a knock on Bush(can't get enough of those wonderful jokes). Ol' pedophile Herbert makes a long appearance which is pretty much the same joke that we've been seeing from him for the past 4 seasons(huzzah). This plot could have been good or at least ok with some work and development but thanks to cutaways and more cutaways nothing happened. The chicken fight(clocked at over 5 minutes) was just filler at its finest, minimal thought went into a quarter of the episode time. How minimal? It was just the first 2 chicken fights but with a little more variety and a lot less surprise. If a show is going to waste 5 minutes on that, it better be an impressive fight or damn funny, this one wasn't. The 2 just punched and kicked each other with references to movies with better fight scenes passed by. I The restaurant part was lame as well. If you wanna see comedic fight scenes go watch the 1960s Batman show. The jokes were of mixed results. A few Chris lines had potential, like his line after being expelled, but the delivery was off. The Hancock joke had a ham-fisted and awful setup line, which I figure FG should have perfected by now. The setup line was(courtesy of the quotes section)-'They cut our school's funding if it's got low test scores? This is not what the founding fathers had in mind.', the setup line has nothing to do with Hancock's odd name. A few more decent gags included 'King Friday' and the DeVry crack. A few bad gags included the drawn-out deaf pep rally and Bruce's address. This could have been a good episode but nobody wants to watch 5 minutes of 'man punches chicken'.
  • Eh, funny parts, I guess.

Okay, I thought that there were really funny parts, like the John Hancock thing and the slave thing, but the part with chicken, which I understand was supposed to be really stupid funny, just went on for a really, really long time. I liked the whole randomness of it but it just wouldn't stop. After a while I'm like, okay when is this gonna end? I'm so board!
  • John Footpenis? It's Hancock now. Why? Mind your business, that's why.

    "Mediocre"
    This episode had major problems.

One problem was that it wasn't consistent with the plot. It had the plot about Chris being expelled from school and joining Morningwood Academy. Then it also had the Chicken fight thrown in there. There is a slight problem with this because the Chicken fight is suppose to be random. This makes it the third Chicken fight we ever experienced and the longest. The fight was a bit too long but at least the writers made an actual plot between them. But by doing this, it causes less randomness because the Chicken is supposed to be random and have no personality. Now, we may expect the Chicken fight again and again, causing him to be a recurring character. This being said, it leaves this whole episode barely focused on Chris and his expulsion from school. Despite the fact that Family Guy is supposed to be random, by making a plot similar to past episodes, it loses originality.

Another problem is the fact that Herbert is yet again appearing on new episodes. In past seasons, he barely appeared which made him funnier and random. The problem now is, he feels like a recurring character. He has appeared in nearly every single new episode this season. However, in this episode, his character was a bit different and a bit creepier than ever. On the other hand, most of his appearances are more creepy than funny.

The third problem? Although it may be humorous for a while, making political jokes are starting to lose its value. Similar to last week's episode, the writers took another stab at Bush and his policies. I have nothing against this but by repeatedly doing it, it's not really funny. Family Guy does has some moments with political satire but only in rare occasions.

Is there something good about this episode? Of course. Although some Family Guy episodes are bad, there are usually occasions of good humor. This episode had particular points of scarce hilarity. I believe I don't need to point them out.

In conclusion, this episode was lacking on a solid plot. Despite the fact Family Guy usually doesn't have solid plots, this one was poorly thought out and it was very similar to past episodes. Overall, this episode lacks creativity and needs a bit more effort put into jokes. The ending wasn't great because ending the episode with Chris tripping is not funny, even when Stewie is playing that annoying tune. The ending was just a quick way to end the whole entire episode without even completing it.
  • Chris gets expelled from his school for being the dumbest, so he is sent to a school his grandfather attended.

This episode finally made me laugh again! after some mediocre episodes like 'Boys do cry' and 'Bill and Peter's bogus journey', 'No Chris left behind' finally had me sitting through the whole episode without getting bored again. With almost no (pointless) random flashbacks, a well told story line and balanced character appearances, this episode is what family guy should always be. It's still not even close to the quality of the episodes from season 1, 2 and 3 but this is a start. Too bad the next episode could as well be dissapointing again, but we'll see! I'm looking forward to the one hour-episode 'Blue Harvest' by the way, the star wars references in family guy never get dull.

  • A quater of the episode wasted with another Peter Vs Chicken fight and i laughed at two things.

    4.2
    "Poor"
Things that do not work and are not funny in family guy:

Making fun of the slave trade

    Making fun of deaf people

    The old pedophile guy (still)

White guy that sounds like Cleveland (still)

The Peter vs Chicken fight 3 (i admit i found the first fight hilarious, then when they did it again i found it kinda funny but slightly boring, for the 3rd one i just found it boring. I sat through 5 minutes of it which is basically a quater of the episode)

The two things i laughed at:

    The healthly horse joke

Stewie playing the trumpet behind fat people (ok so its not funny to fat people but at least it worked as a joke unlike the other things in the episode)
  • You know Meg, female ballet dancers are famous for anorexia and bulimia, and uh... seems to work out for them. So, hintidy hint hint.

    "Poor"
I hate giving one of the few cartoons I actually watch such low scores for episodes but I expect better from a show that used to make me laugh with just a woman being thrown downstars by an infant. And while Family Guy still uses stupid moments, they just aren't funny and don't have the clever spark to them that they used to. While I won't mention my least favourite character, Hebert appearing once again with predictable lines (except for just then) the episode has barely any originality to it whatsoever.

The first chicken fight was mildly amusing, albeit overdrawn, and the second was still random even if inexplicable since the chicken was originally a scene imagined by a woman unrelated to the show itself, but just wasn't funny since it's been done but now that it's had a third appearance, the chicken is no longer random because once people expect it to happen, they aren't surprised when it does (me going "oh, the chicken again" without any shock whatsoever). Family Guy is best at randomness but if they can't come up with something original and redo it, that doesn't show much creativity, which is what happened with the evil monkey and vaudeville guys.

The storyline itself, Chris being picked on at a new school, has been done before in season 4, and while that episode wasn't very good it was certainly original. The buttscratcher line stopped being funny after the first time it was mentioned and the only scene that was remotely funny were the How I Met Your Father program and Lois as a hooker with nobody wanting Meg.

Overall, not only has the plot been done, so has the chicken fight, the extended annoying laugh to fill time and Stewie being interested in, uh, naval possibilities, and this episode barely made me laugh, which actually makes it better than the last few episodes.
  • I only got a few smiles out of this episode.

    5.5
    "Mediocre"
This episode lives up to my expectations, unfortunatlely my expectations weren't high. Almost a quarter of the episode was taken up by the longest chicken fight in TV history, which is a record I'm sure no-one will try to beat as long as they want to stay on the air. If this season was Season 1 of Family Guy, it would be off the air so fast...I am currently so close to dropped Family Guy for good. I think anyone who thought this episode was actually good is deluded and should sit down and watch any episode from the first 4 and a half seasons...
  • This episode may not have been particularly special, but I loved it due to its return to how previous episodes in years past were constructed. It felt like an original, and it was a fine example of how Family Guy is meant to be.

    7.5
    "Good"
This episode had several really funny scenes, and the episode's structure was like the older episodes, which was great. Unlike a few other episodes that have been given to us this season, this one certainly matched what I hoped for the entire season. At the very least, this episode restored my faith that this show still has some original material. Was the plot perfect? No, it wasn't, but it had enough funny bits to make up for it. And, importantly, it wasn't too political. I am relatively unsure why there were so many bad reviews, I found myself laughing throughout!
  • I liked this episode, I don't know why so many people didn't.

    7.8
    "Good"
I liked this family guy episode a lot. We have the classic return of the chicken and the lovely epic battle continues. I will admit Chris' storyline was not really that interesting. I mean it had its jitters here and there, but in reality, meh, it wasn't that great.

I think the most funny or comical part of the show was the "buttscratcher" part. That got the most laughs out of me. Family Guy is really starting to get popular, I am glad they are back. This episode was good, but probably not the best one they had so far.
  • This episode is mainly about Chri getting expelled from school. e goes to a new school where Lois's dad once went to but feels that he doen't belong there. Also, Peter fights with the giant angry chicken that he fought from the past episode but survived.

    1.1
    "Abysmal"
This is what I considered one of the worst episode that I have seen in the history of Family Guy. Everything was doing okay. The comedy of the fight between Peter and the gian chicken and everything else was okay. It was going to be the BEST episode until Herbert, the creepy old man, unexpectedly appeared in the last 60 seconds. I was happy until I gotten very ANGRY when Herbert appeared at the end of the episode. Thanks to him, I now hate this episode and it should be getting an award for the WORST episode of the year. The next new episode that Herbert appears will get an even lower grade than this one.
  • Despite the unfavourable reviews, this episode returned to an episode style from the second season.

    9.2
    "Superb"
I recently went back and watched the second season of Family Guy after wondering if the show had begun to lose its way this season.

However having watched the early shows; I feel it is as strong today as it was in 1999 when season 2 first aired. This episode seemed to be more reminscent of the the style of the first couple of years. There is a main story (Chris getting kicked out of school) whilst the rest of the characters do random things inbetween. The last few episodes season has featured two plots which seem to be competing to be the "A Story", whereas in The Simpsons and other shows, there is usually a clear "A Story" and "B Story". By Eliminating the B Story altogether this week (ala earlier seasons) there was more time for the classic FG Randomness which has been played down in the last few episodes.

The 3rd Chicken Fight was definitely better than the 2nd one and also offered a quick backstory for anyone not aware of the joke from seasons 2 and 4. The fact that they don't drag the chicken gag out every week makes it a lot more funny, whilst there are some gags that appeared AGAIN this week that really need shelved for a while to become fresh again, those would be Herbert, the Pervy old man and the camp 'is he gay or isn't he?' guy who seems to appear in random roles each week. Stewie's Trumbone gag was hilarious as was the texting in the theatre.

The Main Story of the episode was reasonable and I believe this was the first Chris-oriented story of the season as well, mostly down to Seth Green being busy with other stuff. I was surprised we didn't see more Full Metal Jacket spoofs as the episode went on, but it was still pretty good.

Overall, it's a episode you should watch if you feel the show has been lacking recently as it does return to the show's roots somewhat, plus there is the longest freakin' chicken fight in TV history to look forward to!
  • This was horrible

    2.8
    "Terrible"
The Family Guy used to eb a really good show, but lately it has gone downhill and that fast. All they do now is boring gay jokes that allready has been heard a 100 times allready and filling the episode with just time consuming stuff. Like in this episode. The Chicken from season one came back, which was excellent, but then the fight went on forever, and when you thought it was over they went to dinner and continued on even more. It just showed how weak the rest of the episode was when they had to throw in a 5 minute fight in the middle of the whole thing.

I say that if Family Guy can't do better than this they might as well cancel the show.
  • all chickens aside, the jokes were still true to the series

    8.2
    "Great"
Yes, the chicken fight segment was excessively long, excruciatingly painful and completely pointless. When this scene was first used, people just assumed it was part of the randomness of the show. Though it may not be ture, but when the producers reuse an old concept and stretched it twice as long as before, the audiance will just jump to the conclusion that the producers had no more jokes to put in and they are just killing off air time with it. The secone the camera turned to the chicken's eyes, I told myself "uh oh...", and uh oh indeed.

The rest of the show was actually pretty good, it had quite a few decent joke, "hintdity hint hint" and the asian women joke were quite quite funny. Too bad the only thing the audiances will remember is the chicken...
  • i can say without a doubt this show has hit rock bottom!

    1.5
    "Abysmal"
this show is getting stale and very very repetitive! I hope when they renew Futurama it doesn't turn into the new family guy with barely any funny jokes and bad plots, and I agree with the user who said I never thought AD would surpass family guy lately American Dad has been alot funnier and well written than any of these new episodes from season 5 they are just getting lazy and running out of ideas. if alex is writing the new episodes make it stop or fire some writers and hire the old staff which is what people want.
  • the characters now always have some political agenda which they didn't before. It shows a lack of material when shows do that, which is part of the reason the Simpsons are going down hill, I just hope Family Guy isn't following.

    1.1
    "Abysmal"
It seems kind of hackyand hokey. We get it Seth whats his face doesn't like the president good for you. There are people who do and don't watch the shows to hear your opinions because they could care less about your opinions. I watch the show for entertainment, and poltical propaganda aside it still wasn't that great of an episode. The beginning 5 minutes had a few good jokes, but the whole episode seemed to have gone way down hill after that. I'm not saying don't make fun of politicans, but it doesn't have to be the only thing in the show, every show. It looks hacky when a writer does that. That's just my opinon, but if it can't be written in naturally without sounding like they are preaching than don't put it in.
  • Peter fights with chicken... no other plot, a little about Chris. AWFUL.

    1.4
    "Abysmal"
This was the worst Family Guy episode I have ever seen. I feel like they were trying to waste time and so they had Peter fight with the chicken for about 5 whole minutes. When the entire episode is only about 20 minutes long w/out commercials, this is 25% and it was utterly stupid. This show is losing its edge and it won't be long before it is off the air.
