  • One of the weaker episodes

Chris loses interest in being a youth scout, as he would rather pursue drawing and art instead. When the Scoutmaster kicks Chris out of the troop, Peter takes the family to New York to try to get him reinstated, but he takes a wrong turn on the way and the family ends up at a Native American casino. Lois gets obsessed with the slot machines while Peter goes on a vision quest to prove that he has Native American blood in him. I thought this episode was great. In my opinion, it is kinda weak and one of the weaker Family Guy episodes I've seen from the first three season. There aren't really much funny stuffs in this episode. I laughed at the very beginning, Peter seeing the signs, Brian watching TV (and when he try to plug the TV off), Lois obsessed with slot machines, and a couple more. Overall, a great episode, but it is actually one of the weaker (not bad) episodes I've seen from the old days of Family Guy. 8/10

This episode wasn't as good as the other reviewers are saying it was but it was still enjoyable to watch and it's passable enough for me to watch it again. I didn't laugh a whole lot watching this episode but the storyline was original and well thought out. I did laugh at the drawings that Chris drew and Chris loving to draw was very nice. The funniest part was probably the derby scene near the beginning of the episode... watch it to see why. The billboard saying "Dump, next left" when Peter had to use the restroom was also hilarious. One or two more parts probably made me laugh as well but I can't remember. The scene with Peter and Chris in the woods was also pretty nice. My score was a little low because I didn't like how Peter acted after Chris told him that he loves to draw... Peter should have been proud of him. Well, he kinda was but that was because he didn't want to hurt Chris' feelings plus some parts of this episode got a little boring. Overall, a great episode of "Family Guy" but it could have been better. 8.5/10

What I liked- the "DO NOT PUSH BUTTON" cutaway, Peter laughing because he said come, the billboards about poop

Another great episode to Season 1

  • Fantasitc episode yet again of the best Family Guy season ever

Fantasitc episode yet again of the best Family Guy season ever. This epsidoe is as follows Chris hates being in the "Youth Scouts" (a parody of the Boy Scouts of America) and wants to quit, but is afraid to tell Peter. He is finally kicked out, and Peter insists on driving the family to Youth Scout headquarters in New York to get Chris readmitted.

While they are gone, Brian is unable to find the television's remote control and his intelligence drops sharply after watching daytime programming that was interrupted by several episodes of One Day at a Time.

The family stops at a Native American casino after peter need to go for a poo(because Peter had a prune smoothie and saw a lot of signs that reminded him of going to the bathroom), but Lois quickly becomes addicted to gambling and loses the car. After hearing that Lois has gambled the family car away. Peter tries to get the car back by claiming to be Native American ("My great-grandfather's name was Chief Grand Cherokee"), and the doubtful elders demand that he go on a vision quest to prove his heritage.

Chris accompanies Peter into the wilderness, hoping to tell him that he only wants to draw instead of being in the Scouts. Delirious from hunger, Peter begins talking to trees and sees a vision of his spiritual guide, The Fonz.

He finally listens to Chris' complaints and realizes that his son is a talented artist. They return to the casino and reclaim their car, ending the episode with a parody of NBC's "The More You Know" public service announcements.

My fav refrence was Brian watching hours of One day at a time
  • Outstanding episode, beginning to end.

This episode was . . . amazing! I absoulutley LOVED it. Outstanding. Terrific. Any word with the same meaning as, "Better than good."

My favorite part is when Peter has to use the bathroom, and all these signs and truckes pass by saying things such as, "Dump, next left." There were many other of those, and I, my brother, and my dad were cracking up. Golden Family Guy humor.

Very nicely written, and I wanted to see what would happen with Peter and Chris in the woods. Cleverly plotted, and it had some very good jokes.

9.4 out of 10, very nicely done.
  • A hilarious episode from start to finish... Make time from your busy schedule to see this early amazing Family Guy episode.

After hearing that Lois has gambled the family car away, he says, "Ok, I'm not gonna panic, I just need to go back into the casino and find a high roller who will pay a million dollars to sleep with my wife," which is a referencing the scene from the movie Indecent Proposal. Peter tries to get the car back by claiming to be Native American ("My great-grandfather's name was Chief Grand Cherokee"), and the doubtful elders demand that he go on a vision quest to prove his heritage.

I think that the episode The Son Also Draws is a pretty good episode of Family Guy. I thought it was real funny how Lois became obsessed with the gambling. I felt kind of sorry for Chris. I could kind of relate to him in a way in this episode. I'm glad it all worked out for him and Peter in the end. Lois losing the car because of her gambling addiction was pretty funny I thought. I love when Peter says, "There's a message in my alphabet soup! It says 'Ooooo'." Then Brian says, "Peter, you're eating Cheerios." That's great! Anyways, I thought this was a good episode!
  • You have anything lower on that remote than mute?

    7.0
    "Good"
I'm not really a fan of this episode, and although it does have a good few jokes that I'll never forget, what it lacks is an interesting plot. I did notice however that the technical quality of the episodes is gradually reaching the standard of today's productions. I mean there are still some funky looking character models here and there and I believe the main cast still haven't truly found their identities yet, but nevertheless things are heading towards some form of standardisation.

I felt 'The Son Also Draws' had a bare, thin plot, which is probably why there are so many flashback gags present to fill in time. Some of these work, others don't do anything for me. I do wish though that the story was developed more, especially the side-plot involving Brian staying home which showed some great potential. Alas, what we do get is a rather tacked on adventure for the family that never really goes anywhere and seems to have no intention of doing so after the halfway mark.

There are a couple of things that I do love this episode for however. Firstly, I enjoyed the characterisation of Chris because this is a character that is usually shelved and used for short jokes here and there. It's nice to see some interaction between Peter and his son, and the final few scenes between them have a nice sentimental charm about them that's hard to discredit. Secondly, I did enjoy a lot of the humour- especially the gag at the end involving Canada. Don't get me wrong, I hate the bad name that Canada gets from comedians, but the way it's handled right at the end of this episode is hilarious. I did laugh a few other times, but really the episode didn't have as much focus as previous shows have had and so some gags just fall flat on their face.

Nevertheless, this is still a good early episode for the series; it just needed a little more time and development which it sadly never received.

Chruis got kicked out the scots and Peter and the family goes to the big apple to reinstat Chris. along the way, the stopped at a Indian Casine where all those goofing stuff assocating with gambling takes place. but what I really like about this episode is the end where the cast prody NBC's "the More You Know" commerical. Meg did the best thing who is still voice by Lancy charbert. She did the voice of Meg in season one and she's doing a fine job. I had a fun time with this episode. India Casino couldn't be this funny. Smell Ya Later.
  • Not my favourite Family Guy Episode.

    4.9
    "Poor"
I have one word for this episode: Poor. My second least favourite Family Guy Episode in the whole series. I finnally am reviewing it. The writing was still in early stages of development but it really, truly sucked in this one. I remember watching this and thought it might of been the series pilot, before I became the nerd I am today(knowing it wasn't). And I haven't even mentioned how they once again copied the Simpsons, Lois addicted to gambling. Still there was some good moments in this episode like the towel guy in the indian casino bathroom being called "Watches You Pee", or how the trees talking to Peter because he was having a spiritual experience then because they caught on fire in a way very sureal because one of them was lighting a ciggerate or something. Overall I would rank this with the season 4/5 episodes. Sorry for anyone that likes this one...
  • Lois gets an addiction, Peter becomes obsessive and CHris is outted as a talented artist.

    9.0
    "Superb"
This was a great episode. It was funny and it also had a touch of those stupid after school specials. CHris is in the scouts but could care less about what they do because he rather draw. I cant blame him, scouts...whatever!

THe scout leader jumps on this kids back as he is doing pushups and I'm thinking "what the hell?" The leader threatens to kick CHris out if he cant get a badge. 2 years in the scouts? THere are some easy badges to get but I guess Chris wasnt interested at all. THis threat leads Peter to become all "crazy soccer mom" on CHris's ass. THeres a really funny scene where they are watching a family of wasps and of course its an actual family. THe mother and father bicker. It is a really funny scene. ANyway CHris still doesnt want to be in the scouts and goes to Meg for help. THe following scene was a bit weird but very funny. Meg tells him how to handle it, it would work if CHris was a girl but he is not, so the method on Peter just comes off weird and freaky. CHris gets on his lap and kisses him, I was cracking up.

ANyway Peter announces a road trip to ensure CHris stays in the Scouts. CHris doesnt want to go but they get forced to go anyway. On the road Peter has to go to the bathroom because he drank a prune smoothie. A prune smoothie? i dont even know why he would get that or who sells those but gross anyway. along the road he sees several renditions of saying poop. all of them are hilarious. Peter finally gives up holding it and runs into an Indian Casino.

Lois wants directions but gets coerced into playing video poker. Peter finally comes out of the bathroom and wants to leave. Over the course of like 20 seconds Lois has developed a gambling addiction. she also bet the car in that small amount of time too. what the hell?

Peter claims he is an indian and the owner of the casino sends him on a vision quest. CHris tags along to tell Peter about his hatred of the scouts. ITs a rather touching scene between the both of them. He actually gets a vision and its the Fonze from Happy Days. He said he got Herpes twice which is impossible but the FOnz lets Peter know to respect his son. ITs very touchy feely for Family GUy. THe trees feel the touchiness and begin to sing. One tree pulls out a lighter, what?, and the forest starts to burn. THe tress were hilarious and very sarcastic lol. Especially the one that fell.

All in all a very touchy episode that strengthens the bond between Peter and Chris.
  • Lois gets a Gambling addiction, Peter goes one a spiritual quest, and chris confronts peter about not wanting to do scouts.

    9.0
    "Superb"
This wasnt a great episode, wasnt a terrible episode. It was what you expect from family guy. I enjoyed watching it, and I laughed. But nothing like laughing my head off, falling on the ground, getting cramps in my side, etc. etc. etc. as I do with some episodes. Lois, the " wholesome" housewife bets the car and loses it, so peter has to go on a spiritual journey with chirs and ends up talking to trees and the fahnz (THAT was funny) and finding out he had herpes. An above average episode, but not a 10. Classic Family Guy.

  • Another good episode...

    9.2
    "Superb"
This episode was really cool and I think that this episode is one of the best episodes of Season 1, because Chris begins to draw instead of being putting attention to his group, so Peter and all the family decide to go wherever they need to go in order to be able to get Chris back to that place. This episode is really cool and I think that is really cool when they land on the casino and Peter gets the vision about the cool dude. And is really cool this episode.
  • This episode is all about Chris.

    8.8
    "Great"
This is a really funny episode. The script is good but the story is kinda stupid.

Chris gets kicked out of the scouts and he is happy, but Peter isn't. Peter loves that Chris is in the scouts and Chris is scared to tell him. They go to New York to get Chris back into the scouts (even though he doesn't want to). On the way Peter has to go to the bathroom, so they stop at Indian casino. A bunch of stuff happens when they there including, Lois bets the car to the casino and loses it. Peter can get it back if he can prove he is an idian. The people who own the casino say the only way to get there car back is if they go into the middle of the woods and have a vision. He does that and he does. The trees talk to him and the trees say to pay more attention to his son. He does that and Chris finally tells him that he hates the scouts and he just likes to draw. They go back to the casino and they get there car back and everything is back to normal.

    I give this episode a 8.8 out of 10.
  • All about Chris.

    9.2
    "Superb"
The episode focuses mainly on Chris, who is ousted from the scouts for wanting to draw. Peter takes it upon himself to get Chris back in. On the way to NY, they get lost. They pull into an Indian-owned casino. They took some tries at Dances With Wolves with nametags like “Change For A Buck”, “Watches You Pee”, and “Sees You Coming.” Hehehe. Funny names for a game. I especially love the vision quest for Chris and Peter.
  • Bad drugs could not have produced, directed or written a more insulting ending.

Using the cartoon as political propadanga to pollute the minds of those watching was low. Using a cartoon and statement slike \\\"freeloading Canadians\\\" and \\\"Canada sucks\\\" could not been more insulting to your nextdoor neighbour.

The program has encouraged me even more to buy Canadian, shun american policy, and understand more the reason your country is in such a state of war all the time - and some of that can be blamed on your writers too.

I don\\\'t care for Family Guy any more and even less for it\\\'s sponsors.

  • Canada sucks!

    8.6
    "Great"
Both an indiancasino and a wife addicted to gambling have appeared on The Simpsons but this episode was done in a different way, Peter claiming to be a tribe member being very amusing, especially the wild goose "vision quest" that the indians send Peter and Chris on.

The last scene with "The More You Know" being spread across the screen is something I don't understand but I assume it's a parody of a really old show or one never aired in Australia. I enjoyed the scene nonetheless as I did with the scene with the Fonz, a show I've also never seen but one I do know is from a 70s show.

Overall, Chris' plot was original and uite funny but Lois' was a bit repetitive though does deal with a serious issue in family guy-esque way.
  • Peter wants Chris in the scouts and wants him to accel at it. Chris just wants to draw and can't tell Peter because he doesn't want to disappoint him. The family makes a pit stop at a casino and have to win the car Lois lost at gambling.

    10
    "Perfect"
This is one of the episodes that pushed Family Guy to the limit on what it could do on insults. Surprisingly enough, there weren't many letters or calls in saying it was too outragous. Gag after gag in this one was used to make it one of the best episodes of the first season. Don't forget the Fonz. Ehhh!
  • Chris get kicked out of the scouts. So Peter get the family to go to NYC so Chris can get re-instated(sp). but Chris dosen't wanna.

This was good. I liked it it was not my fav but it was right up there. I loved when... here this say it all.

Peter: Brian, there's a message in my Alphabits! It says, 'Oooooo!'

Brian: - "Peter, those are Cherios"

Lol cause you like what and Brian is like the cherios.
  • This episode is all about Chris

    9.0
    "Superb"
This is a great episode for character development. The episode focuses mainly on Chris, who is ousted from the scouts for wanting to draw. Peter takes it upon himself to get Chris back in, even if it means taking the whole family to New York to New York to do it. On the way, they get lost, and Peter needs to find a restroom. After several great signs that he should stop, they pull into an Indian-owned casino. They take a few stabs at Dances With Wolves with nametags like “Change For A Buck”, “Watches You Pee”, and “Sees You Coming.” Lois is talked into gambling and loses all her money, and eventually the car. The episode rounds out with a vision quest for Peter and Chris that ends in the Fonz telling Peter to listen to his son more often. The episode ends with a parody on NBC’s “The More You Know” involving different ethnicities. All in all, it was a great episode.
