The flashback of Thomas Jefferson taking a family portrait and the 27 black children is a reference to the claim made by Political Journalist James T. Callender in 1802 where he claimed Jefferson fathered children with Sally Hemings, a slave at Monticello.

This episode parodies both "Ghostbusters" and the movie "Ghost". Peter's part-time job was that of being a ghostbuster, meanwhile, Sam Wheat, the guy murdered from "Ghost" so his so-called buddy could launder bank money was shown with his fiance, Molly.

The part where the mayor's advisor gives Meg a bomb (and Meg has a beak which is turned around) is from Looney Tunes. The turned beak is from the series of Chuck Jones cartoons where Daffy and Bugs argue over which hunting season it is, and each argument ends with Daffy getting shot in the face, with his beak in different places on his face.

When Stewie's controlling device is being tested on Chris he and Chris quickly perform Puttin' On The Ritz, similar to Gene Wilder in Mel Brooks' Young Franeknstein.

This is a reference to the "Kent State Massacre." On May 4, 1970, there was a student demonstration against the Vietnam War held at Kent State University. The National Guard was called in to keep the peace, but they ended up firing on the protesters, killing two protesters and two innocent victims walking between classes.

When Brian was in college the sign that said "go home dog", and when he is in the rain and shouts "COWARDS!", is reffering to the movie School Ties. In the movie the sign says "Go Home Jew".

Sarah Conner was the character in James Camereon's Terminator who was to give birth to John Conner, the future leader of Man. A Terminator was sent back through time to kill her and prevent his birth. In the sequel, it was sent to kill her son.
