When Steve is walking on the roof in the opening shot, you can tell that the snow is just sheets of cotton when he walks over it. The 'real' snow is obviously fake here, unless it's part of Steve's display.
Steve: Wuh-oh. Carl: What's the matter? Steve: Well, uh, I think I've got a faulty elf. Carl: And something's wrong with Santa. Can you fix it? Steve: Well, I might not have to. Sometimes, these things have a way of working themselves out. (The heads pop off of the Santa and elf. Steve catches a head.) Steve: And sometimes they get worse!
Steve: At least plug me in so we can see if my lights work. (Carl rummages through the box trying to find the plug to the lights, which are tangled around Steve) Steve: Carl? Carl: Don't bother me! Steve: Carl! Looking for this? (holds up the plug. Carl plugs the lights in) Steve: Oh! Pretty! (the lights flicker off, and everything goes dark. Eventually the whole city of Chicago goes dark, and then we see a shot of the Earth, which goes completely dark) Steve: (voice-only) Look what you did!
The German episode title is "Die Weihnachtslüge", meaning "The Christmas Lie".
