  • Funny stuff.

I can't really put into words how I truly felt about the episode. I just know that the actor who plays Carl is a great actor. He really was very much like a nerd in this episode. I thought this was very funny and also very annoying. It didn't make me rate the show any lower, but I thought that Steve can be a bit of a nerd. This episode had some average writing, decent comedy, and okay plots. I do not think it was as funny as others might have thought, but overall, it was still entertaining and also very interesting. Thank you.moreless
  • Urkel's transformation chamber has turned Steve back into Stefan and Carl into a nerd. After realizing that Carl is still the lovable big guy on the inside and despite finally having Laura's affection, Stefan decides he should be himself.moreless

What a letdown. The previous episode set up what could have been a really great show. You have the comedic potential of the role reversal between Carl and Steve, and the deep message that it's important to be true to yourself.

Regarding the "Carl as nerd" plotline, Reginald VelJohnson does his best, but he just isn't given the material to really bring down the house. There is loads of potential to really cut lose, but all we get is him parroting Urkel's catchphrases and sitting on a cake. Yawn. It would have been nice if we could have seen what kind of trouble Carl got into at work. However one classic moment does find its way in there when in a total case of role reversal, Steve and Carl channel each other.

Despite being a catalyst in the previous episode, Myra disappears after the first act this go-around... They could have at least played off of her attraction to nerdy boys and have her start to develop some sort of crush on nerd-Carl.

Stefan eventually comes to the same conclusion that Myra had at the very start of this story: Laura doesn't love Steve for who he really is. Stefan mopes that he needs to let Laura go because of this and lets himself revert to Steve. Proving what a shallow person she is, Laura lets the real Steve go and hopes for Stefan to come back one day.

The moral is totally defeated though since Laura indeed does not love Steve for who he really is and Myra isn't even there to welcome him back with open arms and reinforce that he made the right decision to be himself. Dud.moreless
