Skippy Handleman, Alex’s best friend, is overjoyed to be at college and have a chance to join the same prestigious fraternity. All seems well as Skippy takes part in the pranks, rote learning and menial tasks that comprise the pledge process. At the end of several weeks, perhaps embarrassed and tired but also proud, the young man will have the right to call himself a real part of the group.
Trouble looms as Keaton discovers his Theta Pi Sigma brothers don’t take the same view of his friend as he does. Instead, Skippy is to be the victim of the annual joke known as the ‘stooge,’ when someone goes through all the standard rituals but is not allowed final initiation.
Skippy is an innocent and could be easily hurt by the scheme. Alex has to figure out how to balance his own desire to fit in, with the need to protect his friend from cruelty and rejection.
Filled with slapstick humor but also a strong portrayal of real friendship and respect.
