The cast members had suggested that the series end with the whole family dying in a plane crash. They wanted no possibility for a reunion special.

When in the hospital, worrying about Stephen, Elyse says that she has a six-year-old boy: Andy. Elyse had Andy towards the end of Season 3, so Andy should be only 3-1/2 years old.
At the end, during the montage of family time, there are times when everyone in the family is shown, yet the camera is moving as though someone is holding it.
Even though Elyse and Steven have trouble remembering a time that Alex and Mallory worked together, they actually did work together in the Season one episode "Stage Fright." Alex and Mallory were on the high school tv quiz show, and Alex helped Mallory learn the answers for the quiz show.

As Leland College is ficticious, there is no real way to place it. But it may be located 50 miles east of Columbus. Columbus to Lancaster is 400 miles; Leland to Lancaster is 350 miles.
Ellen leaves for Lancaster on a train evidently local to Columbus. The Columbus train station was torn down in 1979, six years before the episode aired. The nearest operating train station is Cincinnati, 100 miles away.
Dennis' college, Franklin & Marshall College, is a real college acutally located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

There is no Leland College in Ohio. But we learn from Episode #74 The Real Thing that the setting of Leland College is about 50 miles from Columbus.
In the episode before this, Jennifer says she resented it when Elyse went back to work and wasn't spending as much time at home. However in this episode, Elyse was just interviewing at a job and went back to work. These episodes appear to have aired out of order.
Alex mentions that the Cleveland Browns won't be the same without Brian Sipe. Sipe was Browns' quarterback for ten seasons, but left after the 1983 season to play in the USFL.
When Alex is at the ERA meeting, a tomato is thrown at him and hits his shirt, leaving a spot. When he is in jail, there is no spot from the tomato on his shirt.
