  • Fantastic Voyage - When Saturday Morning didn't suck

This Filmation effort was one of the last cartoons full of explosions and color before Saturday morning went the way of diluted educational children's programming. Like other kids my age, the week was one long uphill run to Saturday and when that was over in 1970 or so, a lot of good times went with it. Fantastic Voyage was more adult themed, something I appreciated. It was, after all, science fiction.. It had no giant talking vegetables or animals. There was a nice jazz score and it blew up things. A LOT. It didn't *insult* my twelve year-old self the way TV did just a year or so on when it became so infantile. The characters argued with one another. I liked that. The actors were from radio and were marvelous. Pretty much the whole thing was a win. I'm happy to have seen it.moreless
