‘Home Of The Remains’ is a decent episode that develops some characters, has a couple of humorous moments and some disturbing/impressive scenes. But even though it has all of that, it still fails to leave a huge impression behind. Infact, it’s one of the show’s least memorable ones.

The gang is desperately in the need of food, they are all smoking hungry. Specially miss flower who is having a bad day of acne. Zhaan needs to eat something or else she’ll die.

When Chiana, Crichton, D’Argo and Rygel arrive to a world Chiana says that she has a friend who might help, but then she finds him bleeding to death so she finishes his pain. His brother is willing to give them food, except meat. But Zhaan wants meat and needs it or else she’ll die.

Her spores begin to make Moya’s senses go down, it even begins to affect Aeryn who was the only one unaffected. Aeryn tries to make Zhaan better but instead she makes everything worse. Zhaan even begins to think that Aeryn is her enemy.

Chiana tries to do everything to get her meat, even stay with the guy but D’Argo doesn’t want her to. So obviously he wants her for himself. Chiana has also a friend who claims to found some crystals, D’Argo goes with her to the cage.

Meanwhile John also goes to the caves and there he finds Rygel who is digging for Crystals, he needs them because he lost a game. But then they get attacked by a big monster (who looked very cool) like an ape and almost kills them. The episode was very weak until this, from here onwards it only gets better. So anyway, the ape is called by a fluid to attack D’Argo and almost kills him but rips apart the girl who’s with him.

Chiana is certain that the guy is doing all of this and she shoots something behind her which comes on his arm and burns it (yikes, probably the most impressive scene so far) while Crichton kills the big ape by squishing him with a door. Then they make him dinner for Zhaan and she enjoys it.

‘Home Of The Remains’ had character development for almost all the characters, but it was so painfully dull the first 20-30 minutes. But it has a kick-ass end. I loved the ape, he looked pretty real and the episode was also stuffed with funny moments. Probably the worse thing about it were the guest actors who couldn’t act if their life depended on it, but still/ I also enjoyed the D’argo kiss with Chiana which made them finally closer.

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • A Budong is a giant space creature; people can live inside a dead one to harvest the crytals embedded in its flesh, but both the flesh and its blood are poisonous. It's also studded with acid filled pustules that destroy anyone who touches them.

    • When Delvians starve they bud, and produce poisonous spores to kill predators, which they will then eat.

  • QUOTES (15)

    • Crichton: Fields of green grass...
Chiana: Well, mold is, uh, is green.
      Crichton: Crystal blue streams...
      Chiana: Ruptured bile ducts, actually.
Crichton: If I had anything at all left in my stomach right now, I'd throw up.

    • B'Sogg: It's a primitive animal. But intelligent in it's own way. Over the years we have developed a mutually beneficial relationship.
Crichton:(nervously eyeing the Keedva) Well, I'm really not interested in your personal life.

    • Rygel: There's no reason for both of us to die! I'm a Dominar! You're... just you!

    • Crichton: I hope the food tastes better than this place smells.
D'Argo: What did you expect? It's a corpse.

    • Aeryn: Why Crichton, why? Why do I have to stay aboard Moya?
Crichton: Because, D'Argo and I are allergic to whatever is happening to Zhaan, and you aren't.

    • Rygel: How much did you steal?
Chiana: It was a long time ago.
Crichton: And they're going to welcome the prodigal daughter home with a Thanksgiving meal.

    • Crichton: I don't know. Ahh... I don't know. I hope its not a cold... 'cause I'm sure not gonna get any chicken soup on a Budong!
Chiana: Look, I don't know what 'Cheeken Zoop' is, okay? But there's plenty of other food at the mining camp.

    • Chiana: What were you thinking, attacking B'Sogg like that?! What, did you think he'd just hand over the meat?!
D'Argo: It seemed like a better idea than waiting for you to frell him into submission!

    • B'Sogg: I'll feed your friends... but not you, Chiana. You used up my charity.

    • Chiana: I have a plan!
Crichton: (sarcastically) D'Argo, it's okay. Chiana has a plan.

    • Rygel: (after he and Crichton bite each other in a fight) The dentics tasted better!
      Crichton: You tasted worse!

    • Altana: D'Argo, are you and Chiana together?
      D'Argo: No.
      Altana: No, or not yet?
      D'Argo: That's up to her.

    • B'Sogg: (as Chiana holds a gun on him) You're a thief and a tralk, but you're not a killer.
Chiana: I'm evolving as an individual.

    • Crichton: (as he fries up a dentic for breakfast) You can eat anything as long as it's fried.

    • Crichton: C'mon, let's go.
Aeryn: Oh, that's just great. I have to stay on board with the blooming blue bush, and you get to play with your favorite little tralk!

  • NOTES (4)

    • John Brumpton originally used an Australian aboriginal accent for B'Sogg, but it was changed because it sounded too much like an American southern accent.

    • This episode was the only one of the entire run of Farscape to receive an 18 certificate from the British Board of Film Classification. These are given when the Board wants to issue a warning against allowing viewers under the age of 18 watch the material in question. Presumably this was due to some of the episode's graphic violence.

    • Though Claudia usually prefers to produce her own tears naturally when doing a crying scene, in this episode she used menthol under her eyes to create Aeryn's involuntary reaction to Zhaan's pollenation.

    • International Air Dates:

-This episode aired in Canada on January 12, 2002 on A-Channel (CIVI).
-This episode aired in the UK on August 7, 2000 on BBC-2.
-This episode aired in Australia on December 13, 2001 on Nine.

  • ALLUSIONS (8)

    • John's method of killing the Keedva is a lower-budget version of Luke Skywalker's killing of the monstrous Rancor in a similar situation in Return of the Jedi.

    • Crichton: Hey, Blue. Delivery. It's not exactly Domino's, but it got here in less than 30 minutes.

Domino's is a world-wide chain of pizza shops whose ads at one time guaranteed delivery to your door within 30 minutes.

    • Aeryn: I'll pass.
Crichton: Suit yourself, Jenny Craig, but I'm hungry.

Aeryn's preference to go hungry rather than eat a dentic reminds Crichton of the queen of weight-loss programs, Jenny Craig.

    • Title:

The title comes from "Home on the Range", a popular folksong known by most children in America.

    • Crichton: (seeing Chiana in a sexy outfit) Shazam!

This was the favorite expression of surprise by the comic character Gomer Pyle from The Andy Griffith Show, a TV comedy classic. This, in turn, is a reference to the DC Comic book hero Captain Marvel, who for copyright reasons had to be marketed under the title "Shazam!", and therefore often erroneously referred to as Shazam.

    • Crichton: (failing to pacify the Keedva) No more Captain Kirk chitchat!

Crichton is of course referring to the classic sci-fi TV show Star Trek, where the show's heroes attempted to find peace and understanding with alien beings rather than conflict whenever possible.

    • Crichton: Aeryn. We are out of supplies. We're gonna become the 'Donner Party' of the uncharted territories if we don't get some food soon.

Crichton is referring to the group of American settlers that became snowbound in the Sierra Nevada in the winter of 1846-1847, causing some of the emigrants to resort to cannibalism.

    • Crichton: We're here for Zhaan, Maverick, not games.
Crichton is referring to the 1957 TV series Maverick starring James Garner as an adventurous gambler roaming the Old West. In 1994 Mel Gibson starred in the film version with James Garner playing his father.
