  • Moya arrives at a planet where the people test their genetic compatibility by kissing. wow!

wow getting a mate just by kissing. looks like i need to go to that planet. anyway this was a great start to a three part episode. well written and well driven story. there are some good comedy parts to this episode (Aeryn kissing Rygel). well there was alot of good questions to answer that came in the later episodes. this is one of those episodes that you will want to watch over and over again. i love the part of John Deciding whether or not to go through with marrying the princess. especially under the pressure of marrying the princess.moreless
  • Kissing is Crichton's specialty

Another great episode, the first part of a three parter.

Crichton and Aeryn are finally falling involve but Aeryn doesn’t return his love even though she obviously have it, peacekeepers.

This episode also reveals D’Argo and Chiana having sex which is a bit disturbing. But anyway, Chiana noticed that Crichton and Aeryn have a thing going on and she wants them to mate like she is with D’Argo. When they arrive to a world Zhaan stays behind like usually and she’s forced to starburst because she thinks that Scorpius is going to catch them and so they leave the rest behind. When they want to go back Moya doesn’t want to participate because she found the ones who made her.

Anyway, meanwhile John kisses a woman and their taste is sweet meaning that they have to mate and get married to have children and that is going to eventually lead them to become statues and it will take 80 cycles so when they’re out everyone will be probably dead.

The princess doesn’t really want to marry, she has her own partner but he tells her that she has to do what she has to do. Her brother also wants to marry but he can’t if she does and doesn’t get allowed to be the king and ruled. He has someone working for him that wants to help him and wants to murder Crichton.

Meanwhile John tells everything to D’Argo and isn’t sure if marrying is the right thing. D’Argo says it’s better than to be Scorpius dog who happens to be there so he decides to ask to princes to marry him. But he’s a bit sad because when he comes out everyone he knows will be dead on earth, including Buffy the vampire slayer.

The episode ends with Crichton being attacked and someone shoots him and trying to kill him.,

The episode was superb most of the time, I didn’t like the villain though because he looked fake and a bit uninteresting. I did like his fight with Aeryn however.

Also everyone kissing around was fun, though I could have done without Aeryn kissing Rygel.

The best part was definitely Aeryn and John saying goodbye, I really wanted them to be together but they can’t, she isn’t even going to his marriage.

‘Look At The Princess, part 1’ was a great beginning to a three part episode.

  • This episode has three parts so I'll make this review have three parts. This is part one of the review to one off the best episodes ever.

the episode begins with a scene that John and Aeryn are talking, they kiss and Aeryn runs. After that moment things get a bit cold between them.

The "gang" (with the exception of Zhaan) goes down to a planet. John kisses the princess and surprise he is compatable with. The result is that he is forced to marry her or he'll be turn over to Scorpius. Problems: Aeryin likes john and johns likes her, the princess is in love with someone else, there is a conpiricy to keep the princess from the trone (if she didn't get married she couldn't rule) so they want to kill John.

great acting and writing. This episode ends with a clif-hanger: Someone is trying to kill john and they catchhim. Will they be able to do it? ((end of part one of the review)

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • This episode gives us our first look at a full Scarran, who looks slightly different to others seen in the future because he's modified his appearance to look more acceptable and less menacing as an emissary. Scarrans also have mind control abilities and incredible strength.

    • Scorpius apparently left something in Crichton, as Crichton recalls a memory of Scorpius telling him that he left him "something to remember me by".

    • This colony is one of many "Breakaway" Sebacean colonies that severed ties with the Peacekeepers hundreds of years ago and spread themselves over the Uncharted Territories. It would appear that the Peacekeepers would like to regain control in these colonies, and the Scarrans are also interested in them for some strategic purposes.

    • Moya has apparently met one of her Gods, The Builders.

  • QUOTES (16)

    • Rygel: So, these are the fabled Breakaway Colonies.
Aeryn: When they declared independence and fled from our home systems, no one gave them a chance of surviving.
Rygel: And yet here they are, still hating the Peacekeepers 1900 cycles later.
Aeryn: And every Peacekeeper attempt since then to forge coalition has failed.
Rygel: I'd say they enjoy their freedoms far too much, Aeryn.

    • Jenavian: Well, if you're not going to be King, I'm not going to marry you. (Clavor turns away and sulks)

    • Cargn: I don't believe I've had the pleasure.
Aeryn: Yes, I've heard that about Scarrans.

    • Crichton: I'm sorry, you saying I should get married?
      Rygel: I would.
      Crichton: You're a polygamist!
      D'Argo: John-
      Crichton: What?!
D'Argo: Think it through. Scorpius has offered me a deal to turn you in.
Crichton: What, time share at his condo in hell?

    • (Crichton contemplates the enormity of being turned into a statue for 80 years)
Crichton: Humans do not live as long as Sebaceans, Hynerians or Delvians. When I get back everyone, my Dad, DK, my sisters, Cameron Diaz, Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be dead.
D'Argo: You may never see these people again anyway...
Crichton: Hope, D'Argo. Its what keeps you going. Your gonna see your son. I'm gonna get home. Hope, I have hope... or I have nothing.

    • Rygel: Listen carefully, Peacekeeper. The longer Crichton plays the part he's been assigned, the more likely we'll keep our internal organs internal. Do not dissuade him from this marriage.
Aeryn: Thank you, Rygel. I'll do what I think is right.
Rygel: For Crichton? Or for you?

    • D'Argo: (he pushes John into the wall to talk seriously about Chiana) John, my life has been one crushing moment after the next, but with this girl I have managed to find moments of pleasure! (he stops as Aeryn and Chiana walk by) Don't blow it for me!
Crichton: Never, it's cool, I'm happy for you.
      D'Argo: Good, good.
Crichton: Good. (pause) How come I'm always the last to know?

    • Empress Novia: (to Crichton, referring to Scorpius) My daughter, or that abomination. Choose!

    • Aeryn: (Upset and desperate) So you going to listen to D'Argo over me are you? Is that right?
Crichton: (Resigned) The Empress has made it clear. I marry her daughter or she hands me over to Scorpius.
Aeryn: Eighty cycles as a statue?
Crichton: (Forcefully) It's better than Scorpius!
(Aeryn looks startled at the force and content of Crichton's statement)
      Aeryn: Is it?
Crichton: (Nervously, trying to voice his fear) He's in my head. Back of my mind. Corner of my eye. He scares me Aeryn, and I can't shake it.
Aeryn: (Stronger) I don't know what you're talking about but there's never been anything we couldn't overcome together.
      (Crichton looks at her sadly)
Crichton: Except each other. (Crichton turns his head away from her, the fight gone out of him)

    • Crichton: Aeryn, I want to talk.
Aeryn: (Annoyed) I want to talk less!
Crichton: We already tried that. It leads to kissing!
      Aeryn: (Exasperated) Ohhh...
Crichton: (Quieter) That was a joke. It was to relieve the tension.
Aeryn: It's not funny. Just give me some space, John.
Crichton: (Frustrated) Fine, have the whole universe.

    • Crichton: You want a donation to the sperm bank?
Tyno: I want you to consider marrying her.
Crichton: (Looks around in disbelief. Then looks at Tyno) You would just have to be on this side of my life to understand how FRELLING insane that is!

    • Chiana: Do you want me to jump to another conclusion? He probably wouldn't be in this dren if it wasn't for you.
      Aeryn: Me?
Chiana: Yeah, if you hadn't rejected him.
Aeryn: It wasn't my door he was last seen sniffing under.
Chiana: Some women consider that a compliment.
      Aeryn: Some women have to.
D'Argo: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, as entertaining as this is at the moment, it's getting us nowhere.

    • Aeryn: Would you like to learn how to do this or are you content to continually display your ineptitude?
Crichton: My ineptitude? You mean improvisation that kind of bails your sorry military... I'm sorry, I'm sorry, what's that smell?
      Aeryn: What?
Crichton: It's your hair it smells.
      Aeryn: Zhaan gave me something.
Crichton: All right, smells good, I like it.
Aeryn: Well, it's not for you to like.
Crichton: Oh, then what's it for?
      Aeryn: For me to like.
Crichton: You don't like that I like it?
Aeryn: Personal indulgences can fracture a small crew.
Crichton: I would never tell them that you scented your hair.
(They kiss, then Aeryn pulls away)
      Aeryn: No!
      Crichton: Aeryn...?
Aeryn: No, no, no, no I will not be a slave to your hormones.
Crichton: My hormones?! Hey, I was lips, you were tongue!
      (They scuffle)
Crichton: Why did you do your hair?
Aeryn: To see if you'd notice.
      Crichton: Standing at attention.
Aeryn: Well, I'll let Zhaan know you find her oils pleasing.
Crichton: It's you I find pleasing!
      (Aeryn leaves)

    • Crichton: If I do this, you have to be my best man.
D'Argo: (bewildered) Uh... I'm with Chiana, now John.

    • Rygel: Was I right?
      Crichton: Yeah, I guess so.
      Rygel: Was I right?
Crichton: Yes Rygel, you were right.
      Rygel: Don't ever forget it!

    • Pilot: A representative of the inhabited system has been signalling us...
Rygel: By the yotz! Run, fight, surrender - pick one!

  • NOTES (3)

    • While filming the scene where Aeryn kisses Rygel, Claudia Black's cell phone went rang while in her possession, and they had to do another take. As punishment, she had to buy a case of beer for the crew.

    • The royal servant, ro-NA is played by Ben Browder's wife, Francesca Buller, last seen in season one's "Bone to be Wild". Aaron Cash, who plays Dregon, was last seen playing Bitaal in the episode "Rhapsody In Blue".

    • The "Look at the Princess" story was originally written by David Kemper as a two-parter, however after filming, there was about eighteen minutes of footage left over, all of which was considered good, and so the decision was made to expand the story, and in three weeks David Kemper wrote eleven extra scenes and threaded them in throughout the story. The bulk of the "new" scenes take place in "Part 2: I Do, I Think", and it's because of this that Part 2 is out of sequence in terms of production number (Parts 1 and 3 were already assigned 10210 and 10211 respectively, and the late Part 2 was assigned 10221).

    • Crichton: When I get back...everyone...my dad, D.K., my sisters, Cameron Diaz, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will be dead.

Cameron Diaz is a well-known actress, and one of the Earth women most frequently mentioned by Crichton. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the undead-ass-kicker from the movie and the TV show of the same name.

    • Crichton: I am the reverse King Arthur. I'm the one who can put the sword into the stone.

A reference to the story of how the boy Arthur became King of England, by drawing the sword Excalibur from the stone in which it was embedded.

    • Title:
"A Kiss is but a kiss" is a lyric taken from the song "As Time Goes By" by Herman Hupfeld. A song that was made famous when Sam played it again in Casablanca.
