Fast Times

Show Summary

Inspired by the movie of the same name that was written by Cameron Crowe. While in his 20's Crowe posed as a high school student to gain access to the inner happenings of high school students and their lives. He based his characters and writings on students and teachers that he met there. The central character is Jeff Spicoli, a stoner/surfer dude that is constantly battling with teachers like the very uptight Mr. Hand, as well as the usual high school happenings like love problems and the inner cliques associated with teenage life.

  • Poor imitation of a classic 80s movie.

Stumbled across this one just now. I vaguely remember this show and really wanted to like it, but it just wasnt the same without Sean Penn as Jeff Spicoli. Though having the teachers from the movie was a good idea, replacing the other characters with different actors ruined it. It really wasnt all that memorable as I can even remember a single episode. It was like I watched it then it after it was cancelled, the memories vanished into the mist.

Very few movie turned into TV series are any good. Stargate is one of the rare exceptions where the TV series is far superior to the movie it came from.moreless
  • Bad Recreation

Fast Times is a sorry knockoff of the successful teen comedy Fast Times At Ridgemont High. Being strapped by the confines of network television, the show couldn't capture the drug and sex romp of the film. Also, the show hit the air four years after the film, so it seemed stale by that point. None of the students from the film appeared in the show, but Ray Walston's Mr. Hand & Vincent Schiavelli's Mr. Vargas appeared. Dean Cameron does a decent job a Spicoli, but unlike the stoned out character Sean Penn plays, this Spicoli is more like the school's prankster. Patrick Dempsey & Courtney Thorne-Smith also appear in some of their earliest roles.moreless
  • A decent spin off of the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

A decent spin off of the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. It had a pretty good cast including Dean Cameron as Jeff Spicoli, Ray Walston as Mr. Arnold Hand, Patrick Dempsey as Mike Damone, Wallace Langham as Mark Ratner,

Courtney Thorne Smith as Stacey Hamilton, James Nardini as Brad Hamilton, Claudia Wells as Linda Barrett, Vincent Schiavelli as Mr. Hector Vargas, Kit McDonough as Ms. Leslie Melon, Moon Unit Zappa as Barbara DeVilbiss, Paul Willson as Dennis Taylor, Bill Calvert as The Surfer and

Jason Hervey as Curtis Spicoli. The trouble with this show is it did not live up to the movie.

Camelot, a Bunch of Original Movies, and The Glee Project

What to watch on Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12.
