In the scene after Larry puts creme on himself, he is clean again and the creme is gone. It appears again when Foolin's cat licks some of it off (in the unedited version), and then disappears for the rest of the episode.
Early on, Nelson mentions he's never seen another panda before, but when he talks with Larry about his love for Kate, he mentions his mother who obviously is a panda.
Kate: This isn't really the time. Larry: this is the perfect time. You're in heat, I'm not hungry, I just peed...
Larry: Big daddy's home and he's ready for lovin'. It may be 9 o'clock in New York, but right here, it's mountin' time.
(Siegried & Roy approach an orangutan and chimpanzee walking in the other direction) Chimpanzee: Oh God, this is so awkward. Siegfried: Oh, hello. Chimpanzee: What was I thinking? Office romances never work.
(A distraught Foo-Lin dives and gets stuck in a window) Foo-Lin: Don't look at my ass! This is humiliating!
Larry: We need to talk about you and Kate. Nelson: Ugh, it sickens me that's she lain beneath you. That's how it works, right? I mean, I might need to know for later. Larry: Look, Nelson, I think you might be a little confused here. Nelson: Oh yeah? Well, I might not know how to tango, but I know how to man-dance. Bring it, meat! Come on, you want some of this? (snarls) Larry: (laughs) Damn it, you're too adorable! (raises his paw to Nelson) Nelson: Don't hurt me. I can't take a punch. Fat has a lot of nerve endings.
Larry: Look, this isn't as hard as you think. You just need a hook-- something about you that makes you special. Nelson: I can rap. Larry: What? Nelson: I could make up a rap about her and then lay it on her... Larry: Under no circumstances should you bust a rhyme.
Nelson: Hi, I'm Nelson. Kate: Nelson? I thought your name was Bong Bong. Nelson: Bong Bong? Oh, that's my slave name.
Foo-Lin: Mr. Right's the only man who loves me. Aren't you, Mr. Right? Boodgie, boodgie, boo! Mr. Right: (mouthing to Larry) Help me!
Sierra: I'm on my way to a party by the reptile house. I probably won't take drugs, but I won't really know until I get there. Larry: That's fine. See you later. (Sierra walks off) Yes! Kate... Big Daddy's home and he's ready for lovin'! It may be 9:00 in New York, but right here-- it's mountin' time.
This episode took nine months to create and produce.
Each episode cost an estimated two million dollars.
Music: "She's Got A Way" performed by John Goodman
The title card for "Summer is here!" on the TV news program features a gun-toting clown.
In the premiere, there is a scene involving Mr. Right's penchant for licking and Larry's lack of sex that was cut from subsequent NBC airings. This scene was also cut from the DVD release.
In the previews, Foo-Lin's cat, Mr. Right, speaks with a female voice. This is noted in the previews when he says "Help me!" to Larry. However, in the show, Mr. Right has a deep, male voice, and the actual moment where he would say "Help me!" is only mouthed and not voiced aloud.
A bonus feature at the episode's conclusion allowed viewers to get a behind-the-scenes view of how the complex series is made. Along with brief interviews with the four main cast members (John Goodman, Cheryl Hines, Carl Reiner and Orlando Jones), there was also footage of them performing in the recording booth. As well, some technical details behind the wonders revealed "gray scale" and initial line drawings that are part of the CGI process.
When it debuted as the series premiere, it was presented commercial-free courtesy of Toyota.
