  • Okay, so for a episode that has no advances in the storyline, this episode was decent enough to keep me awake. On the bright side, this is as bad as season 1 gets.moreless

    7.0
This episode was takes the record as worst episode in season 1. Why? Not because it was bad but mostly because it doesn't advance the story much.On the upperhand, it does give us a lot of character development as it explains the characters in a more subtle way.

Felicity finds herself in yet another huge quagmire when her boss, Javier, asks her to marry him. According to Hollywood, there wouldn't be any story if she declined his offer, so she accepted it. I think seeing Felicity willing to marry someone so he can be with his true love shows a lot on her character. She was willing to do a selfless act for her friend, despite how deep a hole it would bury her. But of course, it all amounts to nothing because Felicity didn't marry him at the end.

Noel, on the other hand, heard the news of his life in this episode. He finds out that his brother is gay At first he seems a bit dismayed at the fact and avoid his brother for a while, but we all know Noel isn't selfish, so he eventually accepts him for who he is. Only to find out that his brother is marrying the man who he came out the closet with. I suppose that was a big shock to Noel, but to me it was just another irrelevant part to a irrelevant episode. Maybe if we could've met Noel's brother before hand it would've meant more to me.

Ben's story, on the other hand, comes with continuity. This guy named Lynn recognizes Ben's face from somewhere but he doesn't know where. One day he realizes Ben was the guy he tried out for the track team but didn't make it, too bad he had to bring it up in front of Julie. So Ben tries out for the swimming team, spite for Lynn(the best swimmer) being partially the reason. I think this episode showed a lot of Ben's competitive and confident nature. Lynn broke a lot of his confidence when he brung that up.

So overall, nothing special happened, but it wasn't an unwatchable episode. It just wasn't one of the episodes I remember freshman year for.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • The word "Hey" was used 18 times during this episode.

    • Ben actually doesn't consent to wear the hairnet. He only wears it when he thinks that the lawyer there to see Felicity and Javier is the health inspector. When he finds out that she's a lawyer, Ben promptly removes the hairnet and never wears it again.

  • QUOTES (7)

  • NOTES (4)

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • While on the phone with Samuel, Javier tells him that they are going to rent Armageddon. Series creator J.J. Abrams co-wrote the screenplay for that movie.

    • The Epstein Bar where Lynn works and where the show's regulars hang out seems to be some kind of an inside joke with the writers and producers of Felicity. Epstein-Barre is the name of a common virus that causes infectious mononucleosis.

    • (Javier presents a ring to Felicity)
      Javier: Go ahead!
(Felicity reaches to touch the ring, and Javier snaps the box shut)
Javier: I saw that on Pretty Woman!

Pretty Woman is the 1990 romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, about a business proposition between a successful businessman (Gere) and a prostitute (Roberts) that inspires to spark an unlikely love.

The scene that Javier is referring to is the one between Gere and Roberts just before he takes her to the opera. He offers her a diamond wreath in an open jewelery box, but as Roberts reaches to touch it, Gere playfully snaps it shut, to which Roberts responds with a flirty hysteric laugh.
