Season 4 Episode 17

The Graduate

Aired Unknown Apr 24, 2002 on The WB

  • Trivia

    • In this episode, Felicity is back to Palo Alto, California. It is the first time since the Pilot (Season 1's first episode) that we can see Felicity and Ben in California.

    • In the scene with Felicity and her parents at the restaurant, the very first frontal clip of Felicity is a mirror image. You can see it on the text at the can on the table.

  • Quotes

    • Felicity: Do you ever wonder what would have happened if you and I....?
      Noel (smiling): Never.

    • Felicity (Making a Tape for Ben): Dear Ben. This wasn't the way it was supposed to end. But you know that. At least, I know you used to. It doesn't seem that long ago that I thought we'd be spending the rest of our lives together. Six months later and you're in Arizona and I'm here in Palo Alto, and somehow it's okay, It's actually good. Just so you know, everyone's doing great. Sean and Noel have like a real business. They're happy. And Meghan, despite her issues. still wants to be a psychiatrist. She'll probably be amazing at it. I'll probably become her first client. It's ironic how sometimes the thing you're fighting is yourself. After everything, despite everything, I realized I wanted to become a doctor. Of course my parents couldn't be happier. But now I know I'm not doing it for them. I'm doing it for me, so maybe I can make a difference. So who knows, Ben? Maybe we'll both be doctors. Anyway, I know you're busy but..um, give me a call or write me a letter or send me a tape. I'd love to hear your voice. Love always, Felicity.

    • At the time this episode was produced, it was not yet known if the WB would make good on its promise to run a full 22-episode season, as the network had considered cutting back the order. Therefore, this episode was written as a potential series finale (which it should have been).

  • Allusions

    • Ben: (To Felicity) You were right. It was my turn.

That line, which is the last line for this episode, was the long waited right reply for Felicity's line at the middle of the episode "I have been following you for four years. I mean... it's your turn now."

    • Felicity wrote at the closet in her dorm "Felicity Porter '02" on its wall. just like she did in her dorm room at the end of her freshman year, 4 years ago in season one episode 22 "Felicity Was Here."

    • Noel: Well, You Know, historically, your parents have been, um, overbearing, controlling, crazy people.

The funny thing that's the first time Noel met Felicity's parents, he called them "overbearing parents". That was like 4 years ago, season one episode 2 "The Last Stand."
