The last Group D match here. This was a group that did not receive much fan fare, and with good reason.

Australia's team name is the Socceroo's. I do not even think most people knew that the countries name their team, let alone something so ridiculous, but such is the case. John Travolta was supporting Australia, but he probably would have had better luck supporting a Welcome Back, Kotter reunion episode.

Australia did get the victory here, but who really cares at this point? Let's just finish group play and get the round of 16, the knockout stage, started already please.moreless

    • Australia Coach Pim Verbeek: I am disappointed, but we were not good enough in the end. We gave away some chances, and it was those that hurt us. At half-time, I told the boys that we had another 45 minutes to get a result - that it was an all or nothing situation. We needed that extra bit of luck at 2-0, to go up 3-0. The boys were fantastic. I'm just disappointed. We earned four points in the tournament, but the Germany game killed us.

    • Serbia Coach Radomir Antic: This was a game of good quality. I cannot reproach any of my players for their effort. We had plenty of opportunities. We deserved much more than we got.

    • Australia Midfielder and Man of the Match Tim Cahill: We knew what we had to do and try to put them under pressure and it worked pretty well. We have been through some hard times and we have been up against it. I found myself getting in behind (the defenders) and playing off the shoulder. I felt it was only a matter of time before I got another chance and when it was there I just tried to get a good contact. I'm just buzzing to hit the back of the net because this time last week my World Cup was over.
