People have been criticizing me for it, but I have been rooting for England to win this group and not my home country the US. I find the US to be arrogant and cocky and just not as dedicated to this sport as a country like England is.

This was an entertaining game, but unfortunately greatly flew under the radar because of the more exciting USA vs. Algeria game going on on ESPN at the exact same time. Another game that I am glad I got up at 9:30 AM in the morning to watch, something that is certainly no sinecure.moreless

    • Slovenia Coach Matjaz Kek: It's an indescribable feeling, but this is sport. Of course we're disappointed but I hope in time my players can focus on what they've achieved. I congratulate my team and England. I hope England will win the World Cup now. England played well but at the end we could have got a draw, but sport is like that, very unpredictable. I hope these players will be role models for those who might play for Slovenia in the future. They are maturing a lot and they will come to a point where they will play their best. We have created huge potential and it's up to us to use it. We need to benefit from this.

    • England Coach Fabio Capello: This was the team that I know. We played together with spirit; we fought together and I am really, really happy with the result. I'm also happy that I re-found the team that I knew from the qualifiers. This team can go forward now. All the team the coaches; our minds are free. We can go forward without fear, without everything. I'm happy for the fans.

    • England Forward and Man of the Match Jermain Defoe: Everyone was focused before the game and we approached it differently. The lads were fired up, in the first ten minutes we wanted to put them under pressure. As for the goal, I'm lost for words to be honest. What a moment! It was something I'd dreamed of as a kid. I had a chance for another early in the second half which I missed – that was disappointing, but the main thing was the team. We won the game; we're through now, so I'm delighted. It was a must win game, a cup final.
