FIFA World Cup

Show Summary

The FIFA World Cup is the largest and most prestigious soccer tournament in the world. It is hosted by a different country every four years and is widely considered the most watched sport in the world. Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the global governing body responsible with awarding the country which enters a bid after a rigorous qualification process and ensures that the matches are up to world class standards. The FIFA World Cup has been held successfully since the first tournament was held way back in 1930. The only interruptions occurred in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of World War II. The current format involves 32 international teams competing at different venues within the host nation for about a month. The final two get to compete for a solid gold trophy simply named The FIFA World Cup Trophy. Brazil currently holds the most World Cup titles with 5, followed by Italy (4) and Germany (3). The 2010 World Cup was the 19th tournament in the series and took place in South Africa.moreless
