During an undercover sting operation, boxes of Band candy were accidentally discovered in the lake. The candy is traced back to the Red Robins - seemingly a school club in the same manner as Girl Scouts who make record sales of their award-winning taffy. In reality, the Robins strong arm their competition (stealing candy and cookie dough, cheating in selling taffy, messing up signs of competitors), and the Safety Patrol have been trying to catch them in the act for a long time. Ingrid goes undercover as a Red Robin, but she fits the role all too well and becomes the shoe-in for becoming the leader of the Robins when Malika, the current leader, graduates. Fillmore discovers that Malika used to be Vallejo's partner who also infiltrated the Robins, but was seduced and overcome by the dark side. Will Ingrid find the secret Vault of stolen goods and shut down the Robins for good, or will Ingrid also turn to the dark side as Malika did?moreless
This is my favorite episode!!! i could watch it over and over agian and never get bored. i especially like the little plot twist about Malika being vallejo's old partner it was entertaining. i'm not quite sure why i like this episode so much.....maybe its the great plot line or the fact that this episode focuses more on my fave charater Ingrid Third!!! i love to see her go undercover cause it works foe her lol....i really enjoy vallejos worry for his crew and its pretty great. "too new" that is a lame excuse for anything so it was nice to see ingrid over come it. especially at the end when shes like oh i have other plans and turns that girl down!!!moreless
In my past wanderings all over cyberspace many of the Fillmore fans I have meet have classified this as one of their favourite episodes. After watching it I can see why.
It's got a nice mix of angst, drama, and humour. I like the back story about Malika and how everything is linked (the AV club being where the vault is - sorry for ruining that for anyone). I also like how it showed the choices kids who are considered "different" have to face. And the fact that Fillmore has such faith in Ingrid is moving. I think the fact that the Safety Patrol get together to do stuff (other than catching bad guys) after school, is, well, cute. So, I really like this episode. I think it's great, well-written and pretty funny too.moreless
You'd think that the Safety Patrollers would take off their sashes after school ...
Edit
The twins switch places whenever they are standing quite frequently throughout the episode. (You can tell because one of the twins has blue eyes and other twin has green eyes)
Edit
Maybe Malika made the words 'X A/V Club' in mirror writing on purpose so that Ingrid could read it even though she was filming herself in the mirror.
Edit
Jenna: Ah, yes. Ingrid. Technically, you're still too new.
Jamie: Uh, she can have my place! She can have whatever she wants!

Vallejo: No other volunteers? [beat] Put your hand down, O'Farrell.
O'Farrell: But I already got the outfit! What am I supposed to do with this wig?
Vallejo: Lots of things.
Edit
Geeky Kid: Ha! How they'll pay for not selecting ME as the lead! [overacting voice] They said that I overact! Imagine that - me!

Title: The title Red Robin's Don't Fly is based in the title of popular 70s song "Fly Robin Fly".
Edit
Character: Malika
Malika's attitude (and her Red Robin hat in particular) is very similar to the attitude of Carmen SanDiego from the Computer game/TV series, 'Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego?'. Like Carmen, Malika is smart and is very tricky to catch. Also like Carmen, Malika used to be a Safety Patroller (Carmen used to be an ACME detective), but then she crossed over to the Red Robins (Carmen quit working for ACME and crossed over to the dark side). Unlike Carmen, the Red Robins troup was already around before Malika became the leader, whilst Carmen formed her own criminal organization, VILE.

Professor Third: Band Candy Connection
Anthony Stewart Head, who voices Professor Third, is better known as Rupert Giles from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". In a Season 3 episode, "Band Candy," Giles is transformed into a teenager when he eats magical band candy.
