Finding Our Way

Finding Our Way is an educational series that originally aired on PBS from September, 1979 to January 1, 1980. It consists of 16 episodes with one episode broadcast per week. The series is a documentary on maps that is suitable for use in a classroom environment for children in grades 4 through 8. The first episode is "Tools We Need," which provides a general description of items such as maps, compasses and sextants. The next episode is "Global Concepts," which is a general overview of reading a map. The third episode in this series is "East West Lines," which discusses lines of latitude. The following episode is "North South Lines," which covers lines of longitude. The episode "Language of Symbols" provides instructions on interpreting the legend of a map. The episode entitled "Scaling Down the World" presents the concept of scale as it pertains to map making. "The Meaning of Relief" covers the use of topographical lines on maps.
