  • Finding Your Roots takes a more scholarly one-on-one approach.

I have really enjoyed both the first and second season of 'Finding Your Roots' with Professor Henry L. Gates Jr. of Harvard University. Gates takes a more scholarly approach to the family trees of his guests, with the context of their ancestors lives being compared to what was happening in America at the time. I also appreciate his more rounded representation of Americans from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds which makes for a more fascinating show, we are not just watching a television program, we are learning the whys and wherefores of why things in America happened the way they did. I thoroughly enjoy the show and Professor Gates observations. I also watch the perhaps better known NBC show 'Who Do You Think You Are?'. The second show is perhaps a bit more fun but I would rate it only an 8 1/2.moreless
