Fireball Fun For All

Show Summary

Vaudeville comics Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson brought their Broadway show Hellzapoppin' to television in this summer replacement for Texaco Star Theater. Olsen and Johnson's routines wers loud, broad and frantic, often resembling organized chaos. Pies were thrown, clowns ran amuck, crazy props abounded, showgirls danced and seltzer was squirted. The action often spilled into the rowdy audience assembled at New York's Center Theater. Technically speaking, the show was a viewer's nightmare with the cameramen and control room unable to keep up with the rapid-fire craziness erupting in the theater. Their regulars included Chic's daughter June Johnson and Ole's son J. C. Olsen. After its summer run, the show returned for two more months. Additional cast members were added, including singer Bill Hayes.
