  • The pilot episode of Fireball XL5 has the crew dealing with a deadly missile headed to Earth.

An ok episode for what the series is a half kids show. Gerry Anderson at least made his kid shows (Thunderbirds etc) interesting. The sets he used were realistic enough to make it possible. The music was good classic of those scifi bw tv shows and movies at the time. It fits the mood and atmosphere. Gerry clearly wanted to envision some part of the future here. When Steve and Venus ride their hovercrafts around the planet of the Subterrains it's great indication of the technology to come. On top of that Anderson again pulls it off prett well to not make it look totally fake.

In the pilot the crew tries to stop a deadly missile from hitting earth and find out that aliens known as the Subterrains are behind it. The action is decent and the story is easy to follow. Overall a good episode for a pilot.moreless
