First of the Summer Wine

Show Summary

From Roy Clarke (Keeping Up Appearances) comes First of the Summer Wine, a prequel to the popular and long running comedy seres, Last of the Summer Wine. Based on the diary entries of a young Norman Clegg (David Fenwick), the series follow Clegg and his friends, "Compo" Simmonite (Paul Wyett), "Foggy" Dewhurst (Richard Lumsden), Seymour Utterthwaite (Paul McLain), Wally Batty (Gary Whitaker), and Sherbert (Paul Oldham), in the days leading up to World War II. Set in the same lush and green Yorkshire town as its mother series, the show follows the friends as they learn to make it in the world amidst a coming war which will change their lives forever. Also appearing in the series are Clegg's parents (Peter Sallis, who plays Clegg himself in Last of the Summer Wine, and Maggie Ollerenshaw), Wally's future wife (and Compo's lifelong lust), Nora Renshaw (Helen Patrick), the future owner of the Cafe, Ivy (Sarah Dangerfield), Dilys (Joanne Heywood), and Mr. Scrimshaw (Derek Benfield). First of the Summer Wine ran for two series of thirteen episodes from January, 1988 to October, 1989 on BBC-1.moreless
