Five Days

Show Summary

Welcome to the Five Days guide at TV.com. The first series of this crime thriller tracked five pivotal but non-consecutive days in a mysterious missing person's case involving a beautiful young mother of three. When two of her children went missing, a team of investigators was determined to find out whether she had abandoned her children or if the family had been abducted. A second series in 2010 unfolds over the five most significant days of separate police investigations into an abandoned new-born and a suicide. The characters of DSI Iain Barclay and DS Amy Foster from the first series were resurrected in spin-off mini-series Hunter. Five Days is a BBC drama production in association with HBO. Each series was broadcast on consecutive weekdays on BBC 1. The first series was broadcast on HBO on Tuesdays at 8.00pm from 2 October 2007.

  • As I sat down to watch this gripping drama the voice-over announcer stated, "this is possibly the best drama you will see all year…" and the announcer was right.

The series followed the repercussions of the mysterious disappearance of Leanne Wellings over five non-consecutive days. The story follows the effect upon her family, including her two young children who found themselves abandoned in a car at the side of a road awaiting her return, the police and the local press. It was well written throughout leaving me guessing until the final scenes as to the truth of Leanne's disappearance. The main characters and the relationships between them were multi-dimensional and not at all stereotypical which you can find in some dramas. With actors such as Edward Woodward, Hugh Bonneville, Janet McTeer and Penelope Wilton the series was destined to be sheer class but the acting by all, including the young children was in my opinion outstanding.moreless
