Episode Recap

Kate is furious when she finds out that her brother has leased part of the Five Mile Creek property to The Eastern Telegraph Coach Co. without consulting her first. The new company will be providing customers another way to get from and to Wilga and Port Nelson. She immediately changes her tune when she discovers the driver is a handsome, high-spirited charming man. He finds her attractive as well, though he is surprised that she is engaged when she isn't wearing a wedding ring. Enjoying the feeling of having another guy make a fuss over her, she tends to make Con jealous by dating the charming man.

Kate enjoys Harrison's sense of humor and personality, so she allows him to use The Haven as his way station as well and stands firm on her decision, against the men's pleas. She also informs Con that she wants a wedding ring, but he doesn't know how to pick a good one out. He allows Jack pick one out to give to her; however, Jack picks out a horrible ring. He then gives the ring to Kate, telling her that he bought it, but realizes how ugly it it when she opens it. She appreciates the thought and thanks him. While she is in a good mood, Con tries to sweet-talk her out of helping Harrison's company, but she
stops him and tells him business is business.

Con wagers a bet with Harrison: whoever can make the run the fastest, keeps the routes for their company. The men turn against Paddy when Kate volunteers him to help Harrison with his horses and hitching up a new team, so Paddy shows Harrison a secret shortcut to take in the race. When Hannah slips to Kate that Jack bought the ring instead of Con, Kate goes and helps Paddy with Harrison's team, so that he would win the race and humiliate Con and Jack. However, Jack and Con sacrifice their 10-minute rest period, take a shortcut, and arrive at the finish line way before Harrison. Harrison realizes The Australian Express is the fastest, and leaves for another country.

As Paddy and Ben do their usually bickering over who can do a better job, Maggie shows Kate the havoc and hurt she has caused. She apologizes to Con for treating him badly, but he apologizes to her for not taking their engagement so seriously. Then they both laugh at how Jack picked out the ugliest ring that they both have ever seen.
