The character of Annie (Nicole Kidman) is introduced in this episode. Annie was added to the cast as the Disney side of the creative team felt a teenage character would bring in more viewers from the teen crowd.
Having the stage coach uprooted from Five Mile Creek was not a decision made by creative team. The lease on the location used for the way station was located near Sidney, with the sets constructed on private property near Terrey Hills. The lease expired and with a third season commissioned the creators, cast, and crew were left with a problem. It was decided the best option was to film in another location which provided a stable setup (the production moved nearly a thousand miles to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) and to compensate for the actual location switch the storyline of moving on to Emu Plains was conceived.
Hannah Scott's exit from the series was not a result of the creative team's decision. Young American actress Priscilla Weems (Hannah) came under fire under international law prohibiting her visa from being renewed to remain in Australia. Hannah was written off to boarding school since some explanation for her exit was needed.
When he is arrested, Jack's full name is revealed to be John Arthur Taylor in this episode, a fact previously unknown in the first season. From this episode on, Jack is referred to (usually in jest) as John Arthur.
At the time of production of the first season's final episode, it was unknown to the cast and crew that Five Mile Creek was being renewed for a second season.
Gus Mercurio (who played Ben Jones) was a former professional boxer before becoming an actor. In the episode Ben acts as Con's trainer, a suitable role for Mercurio given his true life experience.
The characters of Sam (Martin Lewis) and Ben Jones (Gus Mercurio) are introduced in Horses for Courses.
For the Five Mile Creek production an original Concord Coach was purchased for $25,000.00. The coach was refurbished and repainted by the craftsmen at Disney's Burbank Studios before being shipped to Australia for use in the first pilot episode. Later three more coaches were reproduced using the original, these coaches were built for a total cost of $25,000.00. After Five Mile Creek finished it's third (and final) season, all four were sold to film suppliers and have been used in many movies.
