  • We learn more about Sam.

    9.0
I thought this was a really good episode for Sam. His character has been kind of mysterious, but this episode opened the door for him, and I really liked that. It was an emotional episode for him, but it made his character more real. The team is really coming together, especially at the end when they all waited for Sam in the locker room.

I also liked the storyline as well because it's the type of storyline that people may be able to relate to, which makes for a good show. I think Flashpoint has definitely stepped it up, and I'm excited for more episodes to come! I hope we get to learn more and more about each character; it makes the show even more exciting to watch! :)moreless
  • Kind of boring.

    6.0
This Sam-heavy episode was not one my favorites this season. The hockey rink storyline was not a good parallel to killing your own friend in war, and I just do not think American fans can relate to hockey too much, in my opinion, even though I occasionally check out the sport. The show seems to be floundering right now. It is not that any episode has been downright terrible, but can you even remember the last time a classic aired? Stagnant is probably a better word, but I hope the season finale next week is significantly better than this was.moreless
  • "See you on the other side"...

    9.5
...might be the mantra all Torontonians are chanting about the demise of the historic and iconic Maple Leaf Gardens...oops, sorry, "The Godwin Colosseum". But a rose by any other name still falls to greed...

A well woven story of a proud and brave young man, who's tale is, unfortunately, far from fiction. You know a show or an episode is a good one when the hour is over before you even notice, and this one somehow pushed all my "you will be assimilated" buttons. I was indeed, engrossed.

Its too close to home, on a local as well as global level and yet the writing did not judge; it was not a commentary, it was just a tragedy that begged to be expressed.

Flashpoint is doing that very well this year, and very consistently which puts it on the same playing field as any successful prime time series out there.moreless
  • That's great stuff

    10
I'm loving this series more and more. In this episode you find rhythm, tension, psychological study, the usual personal involvement and a subtly touching nostalgic mood (the coliseum, the games, the players, all the lives and the people who loved it). The team members are close and friends, they're human and, as such, make mistakes or feel down or want to give up. They're true and that's what matters. Great close-ups on the people faces, on their eyes, studying their expression. Great direction of the action scenes, great use of lights and music. The best series on the air at the moment. And I imagine it's going to be cancelled, right?moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • The ball camera that Ed throws is a real throwable ball camera used by SWAT teams and military units.

    • When entering the arena, the guys make reference to an Elvis Presley concert held there on April 2, 1957. Presley did indeed perform at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, where this episode is shot, on that date.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Wordy: "Deny defeat and rise on victory's wings." That's the dressing room.

Leah: I've got goosebumps, I'm not even a hockey fan!

    • Darren: When you're here, you know what you for. If you're on the stands or you're on the ice, you know what you're for.

Sam: You feel like you belong, I hear ya.

    • Sam: I know what it was like over there.

Darren: You know your war, you don't know mine.

Sam: I know, everyone's is different.

    • Sam: You didn't plant that IED.

Darren: If it hadn't been for me. Howie never would have signed up. He did it for me, and now I have his blood on my hands, and you don't know what that's like.

    • Darren: I got nothing to see me through.

Sam: I thought it was over for me too, Darren. I know, okay? I know. But I found a different place to go, a different person to be. That's why I'm here so let me help you.

    • Sam: Look, when I left the field and I joined the SRU, I didn't want to be a point-shoot guy, I didn't want to take people out from a mile away. I wanted to save people, you know? Up close. The one guy I should have been able to reach. I mean, the one guy, I couldn't. I wasn't objective, I put my team at risk. I don't belong here.

    • Ed: (to Sam) It doesn't get any easier. We don't get to win every time. You gotta be at peace with who you are to get through that. There's a bunch of guys I know, they're cops, they're military guys. We meet up and we talk and we help each other keep it together. Greg and I are going Friday night, you should come.
