FLCLimax
AIRED:
Ever since Naota’s “Medical Mechanica” came out of his head and was destroyed, it has been looming over the factory, in the form of a giant hand, causing mist to enshroud the entire city. To make matters worse, Haruko and Canti are on the run from Amarao, who attempts to find the Terminal Core before they do. Naota once again runs into Amarao who offers some strange advice. Things soon go insane as Haruko is preparing for the final “battle”, in which Naota is expected to unknowingly play the lead role. Though in a city as normal as Mabase, it’s really nothing new to Naota; or is it?moreless

  • FLCL Episode #6 - "FLCLimax"/"Furi Kura"

"FLCLimax" is the sixth and final episode in the "FLCL" series, and is considered by many to be, not only the greatest episode in the series, but one of the greatest anime series finales. Rightfully so, as "FLCLimax" does well to wrap up all details pertaining to the "FLCL" series. The episode's main focus is explaining why Haruko came to Mabase, why she made her way into Naota's life, and what it is she actually wants (which was mistaken by Amarao). In addition, we get a look at what eventually becomes of Naota and some insight on what eventually happens to Mamimi. The 'Climax' scene of the episode is personally one of my favorite scenes, not only in this series, but out of any anime I've witnessed. Overall, an excellent ending to an excellent series

This episodes represents everything good with the series! Naota fights as Atamosk, and he totally kicks butt! The animation is especially flawless and fluid in this episode, and the series ends perfectly on this note. The whole series is awesome, but I'd have to say this episode is my hands-down favorite.
  • Why????

Is this the end???? I have read the comic series up to book two and am sad to say it looks like it will be some time before we see a new season or episode. In the mean time if you liked this you might like Robot chicken, squid billies or Aqua teen hunger force. Why does Naota have that weird thing that’s like a half hat thing???
  • man!!! what a ride

  • Very funny, very touching. This episode is the reason why I love Fooly Cooly so much.

My favorite patrt was when they did the Manga thing. But the most beautiful part of the whole series was when Naota told Haruko that he loved her and kissed her on the lips. Which is kind of creepy since he's like 11 and Haruko's 19 years old you know.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • The two guitars Noata summons are a Gibson Flying V and a Gibson SG bass.

    • When Naota comes out of Canti with Atomsk's power you can see the outline of the bandage on his head which is then replaced by the Atomsk symbol. Then, when he turns back to normal the bandage is gone.

    • When Naota gets a soda, he's wearing a hat. When he runs into Amarao, he's not. It's unlikely that he would take it off and put it in his back pack on the way home for no reason.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Amarao: This is insane! You're doing exactly what Medical Mechanica wants. They're blasting planets all over the galaxy, smoothing out the wrinkles so you can't think. Even the Pirate King has been captured; they're using him to lure you in. It's over! It's all over!
Haruko: I said I don't care about any of that. I just want Atomsk, that's all. I don't care what happens to this planet. They'll have to learn to think smooth, I guess.

    • Naota: When you act selfish like that, bad things are bound to happen, you know.
Haruko: Oh well, I'll just have to deal with the bad things, then.

    • Amarao: (to Naota) Where are your eyebrows? Why did you take them off? I told you not to trust her. She's only thinking about herself. She doesn't care what happens to you; she doesn't care what happens to anyone. But you have family and friends who live here, and that high school girl, you want to save her, don't you? Of course you do; that's normal; you're thinking like an adult. Come over here. Don't let her manipulate you. (Naota goes to Haruko) What are you doing? How much pain before you realize? Are you out of your mind? You brat!

    • Haruko: Vacation, alienation, Japanamation, munka, kunka, naked lunch, Hawaiian Punch, fruit juice. It's not funny; I'm gonna crack up!
Naota: What do you mean, it was your stupid joke.

    • Haruko: Ta-Kun, you can't have that! That power is mine!

    • Gaki: What are sporks anyhow?

    • Naota: When you live in a town like this, all covered with smoke, you forget there is a world outside. Nothing amazing happens here and you get used to that. Used to a world where everything is ordinary. Everyday, we sleep here and spend a whole time of dying slowly. But now, I know there really is a world outside.

    • (Kamon pops out of the manga scene)
Kamon: Ahh! Let's not do the manga scene anymore; it's too much work! The director said that after episode one, we would never do the manga scene again!

    • Naota: Ever since that day, the smoke has continued to pour out of the Medical Mechanical Factory, the town is completely covered in white mist. You can't see the sky or stars, it's almost like outside of this town nothing exists anymore. A town where you can't go beyond the edge, the gigantic hand says, "Stay where you are, you have no choice". It's like the right hand of a Judge or a Prison Warden about to give the signal for an execution. When Haruko and Canti vanished I wondered if they went out there. To the outside world, someday.

    • Kamon: (to Naota's teacher) What hamster, Hamtaro?

    • Naota: (to Haruko) I love you.

    • Mamimi: (trying to rein in Ta-Kun, her robot cat) Stop it, they're not on my revenge list!

    • This is the series finale. There is no "Season 2", no "Lost Episodes", no nothing. This was only an OVA/OAV. There are also NO plans for anymore episodes.

    • Because this episode was too long (31 minutes), [adult swim] had to cut the ending theme. The final image in the end credits for this episode is Haruko riding through space on her Vespa.

    • Throughout this entire episode, Mamimi never speaks with anyone except for the Terminal Core, her newest "Ta-kun".

    • This is the only episode in which no one makes a big deal out of Amarao's eyebrows.

    • This is the second time the family goes into "manga mode". The first time was in episode one.

    • Atomsk's symbol, which appears sometimes on Canti's face during the series, and on Naota's forehead in this episode, is based on the kanji for "adult".

    • Atomsk, which is mentioned throughout the entire series, only shows up in this episode. Atomsk is a metaphor for pure sexual energy.

    • If you look carefully, the fully emerged Atomsk has a jiggling, metal link attached to his head much like the one attached to Haruko's bracelet. It is possible that some sort of magnetism between these two pieces is what makes Haruko's bracelet piece pull itself towards Atomsk.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • There is a reference to Superman in this episode, in which after the manga sequence, when Haruko and Naota's family are fighting and they show the house, he is seen flying out of it!

    • This episode made a reference to Hamtaro, the anime and hamster of the same name.
