I like this show because of its humor and fighting sequences. I've never seen anything like it before. It also made alot of references to some other tv shows like South Park. And no, the city in this show is indeed extraordinary. I mean, a huge golden iron in the middle of the city? You'll never see that in an anime! This is one of my favorite animes so far this year, next to Samurai Champloo. Even though it looks childish, it has alot of stuff that's not for little toddlers. I hope this show keeps going. I don't want to see the same reruns over and over again.
Noata, a young boy living in Endsville Japan, was randomly hit in the forehead with a Haruko, an 18 year old alien, with her acoustic guitar. Afterwards Noata's head begins to reject strange things like an enormous robot!
This anime is so different than any other before it, setting the standards between 'Anime' and 'WTF?' The six episodes are utterly addictive and the music for the animation is just plain great. This tv show is well animated and worth watching for so many reasons! Go out and watch it because Fooly Cooly isnt going anywhere!
Even though this was a short anime I absolutely loved it! I hope there will be more like this show but with more episodes. The way it ended could leave room for more episodes...who knows the alien girl could come back and it could be Fooly Cooly all over again!
If you\'ve been through a hard day\'s work and need to get rid of some stress, watch this show. It\'ll make you forget all your problems with laughter, whether it be with giant robotic demons or Haruko going ape on Naota. Bravo, Gainax and I.G. for another mind boggling anime series.
hard to understand at first but easier around the second episode. the sexual jokes were somewhat funny and t southpark parody in the fifth episode was hilarious. o fooly cooly fooly fooly cooly fooly cooly fooly cooly fooly cooly fooly fooly cooly fooly cooly fooly cooly fooly cooly fooly cooly
Fooly Cooly is beyond description. I sat watching the first episode mesmerized... unable to turn away. It's like the gory aftermath of some horrific disaster, or watching people eating something disgusting. You want to turn away, but you can't. It draws you into it's hypnotic imagery and hangs on for dear life. I couldn't begin to tell you what this show's about. What's up with the girl with the guitar? What's up with the robot things coming out of the kid's forehead? What's up with the guy's eyebrows? I may not understand any of this, but I know I'll keep watching.
Once upon a time there was some people who loved to confuse us...so they made this great anime.
The animation was perfect for a show like this. The show was crazy so the animation had to be :)
There is a lot of great music you\'ll hear during the battles or just when they\'re doing what they always do....being crazy...witch might be during the battles....
Ummmm is there a story?Yes there is but you can\'t excactly find out till about 2/3 into the anime. It will all be explained in the end.
There is plenty of great charactors that you will always remember...My personal favorite is Canti.
If you don\'t watch and like this I suggest you go to the doctor and see whats wrong.
Everybody should watch this anime atleast once.Because then you\'ll want to watch it again and again and again.....
Awesome! One of the absolute best in anime! I really feel sorry for anyone who missed this epic program! A little hard to fallow... but still one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. it was a real shame that it was so short. I would have watched it if was much longer and drawn out. I hope they make more soon.
Fooly Cooly is an anime about a young boy who lives in a boring town when his life is turned upside down by a mysterious traveler. Insanity and humor ensue when these two end up battling a military organization and monsters from the young boy's head.
I absolutely love this anime. It\'s so different and completely insane that you can\'t help but love it. It\'s an excellent show because you can watch it over and over again and not know what\'s going on and still be completely interesting and entertained. The series is short however possessing only 6 episodes but they are so great I don\'t mind watching them again and again. The show contains off the wall humor and situations that can only be described as Fooly Cooly. I\'ve seen some cartoons in my day but this one completely takes the cake. The main character finds himself in odd love shapes such as pentagons etc. His father and grandfather are crazy and hilarious to watch. There is so much going on you can never get bored. My favorite episode is \"Brittle Bullet\" for its outright insanity and defiance of all that is natural. I would recommend that everyone watches all the episodes at least once and see why this anime is so great.
FLCL is one of the best anime's out there, and ranks at the top of my list, An action-comedy-coming of age-spoof-social commentary-just plain crazy hybrid that keeps one begging for more. With exquisite animation, a fantastic sountrack, awesome voice-overs for both english and japanese. The only downer is its 6 episodes long, its just too short.
FLCL is story telling at it\\\'s best. Although the characters are insane and totally off the wall the story that is told is completely human
What i got from FLCL is that during the whole thing the relationships that Naota has are akward he\\\'s around 12 years old and when you\\\'re a 12 year old boy you don\\\'t know what way is up. Naota\\\'s brother is in america playing baseball and his girlfriend Minimi is sending him mixed signals. when Haraku a mysterious young woman on a vespa comes and hits him with her Rickenbacker Bass. Soon Robots explode out of his head and it\\\'s up to him and Haruka to fight them. during the course of this Haruka begins to show effection toward him but he knows she\\\'s not serious.
i think that what is so human about FLCL is that Naota is trying to become an adult and rush into it until he meets Haruka who\\\'s an adlt who acts completely like a kid. She puts Naota in all these Dire situations and he has the responsibility of being the portal way for all of these robots. although Naota has all of these responsibilities he learns that it\\\'s alright to be a kid and be innocent sometimes.
and you shouldn\\\'t be afraid of your feelings
I really hope that this show keeps going on or if not i'll DIE!!!!Best anime show ever created!!!This is the greatest snime show iver ever seen even though theres only 6 episodes. The coolest part about this anime is that its in real time but has the futuristic feel. Guitars that can sustain hundereds of pounds of preassure and the flying scooter.
The soundtrack is pretty cool. But the best songs on it are Little Busters and ride a shooting star by The Pillows.
But this is still the greatest anime show ive ever seen. Funny and completely sweet at the same time! Its the best mix. They better have more shows like this.THEY BETTER!!!they better or else...
WOW! This is the absolute most wonderful anime I have ever seen!Unfortunately, I only saw the last 10min of it, but what i was was simply amazing! The iron was a bit weird, but it was a really good show, that should be played nightly, good work Fooly Cool
A wonderful idea, watching this made me realize that anime isnt only samurai, and ninja and futureistic cartoons, but it may be anything the wrighter thinks of. Im thinking they should continue with this show untill the day they die. This is the Best anime cartoon that I have ever seen! Again, good work!
The first time I watched this show I didn't care for it. Perhaps it was because the show was crazy or maybe it was that I saw episode three first and didn't understand anything. Having watched the whole series now (all six)I still dont know that I understand it all, but I do know that it was great. Perhaps even one of the best animes ever. Very upbeat and entertaining, I would recomend it to anyone.
Fooly Cooly (or Furi Kuri) is probably one of the most strangest Anime's I have ever seen. This show is tottally off the wall. The best thing about it is, it's actually good!
The story, is just..a blur when you watch it. As there is so much chaos going around in this town. It just simply makes your mind go off of the story, and just living in this wacky world.
The art is very well done. I love it. It's probably the best I have seen since watching Hellsing, and thats some pretty awesome artwork.
In the end, you may not know whats going on in Fooly Cooly, but for me. I was addicted into the whole show. I may not have a clue sometimes of what just happened, but I for sure love it all! This is a very well done series and it will be one of my favorites for along time.
Wow this show is awesome!!! Basically, strange alien girl comes to Earth, boy falls for girl and everything that can go wrong does. With an incomprehensible plot line and some of the most off the wall characters ever Fooly Cooly is an anime lover's dream,
Fooly Cooly is an awesome show, it's just a shame that it's so short. At first I wrote if off as wierd, and that opinion still hasn't changed. But it's kinda grown on me and after a few days I was hooked.
Anyways, even thought it's been packed into six episodes, the plot moves very quickly and tends to not make any sense for about nine tenths of the show, and then suddenly a little burst of sanity is dropped in which makes everything better.
The mecha in this show is nuts, most are some kind of organic/mecha beings. The fight scenes rock off the wall, although if that's all you're interested in you'll have to watch the entire episode because the fighting only happens in the last 5 minutes or so.
The music is pretty sweet too, I think the band who did it is called The Pillows. Anyways if you're into any kind of anime this is deffinantly something you'll want to at least glance over, it's totally worth it!
Best anime Ive seen in awile. My friends and I are total addicts to this show.My friend owns both FLCL mangas and I own every single episode on video tape.Let the weirdness commence!!!!!!!
Uh...........I got nothing else to say. im gonna chant the name for a while....FLCL! FLCL! FLCL! FLCL!
Fooly Cooly or FLCL or Furi Kuri or whatever else you want to call it is one of my personal favorite shows?
It's creativity, it's awesome soundtrack, it's supurb animation, it's presentation, and it's blatent knowlage of the comical section of the human mind are all reasons why.
Story: The story in the show is original and great! A 20 year old girl, named Haruhara Haruko, who claims she's an alien becomes a housekeeper in Nandaba Naota's house. Ever since she showed up, strange things have been happening inside Naota's head, including battle-ready robots popping out and his brain dissappearing. Also, one of the robots that popped out becomes somewhat of a maid at his house, doing chores and what-not. There's also a backstory between Naota's brother going to america to play baseball and his brother's girlfriend is now attracted to him. As you go on, some new characters are introduced and thus starts a 3rd storyline. this seems all a bit much to take in, and it is... this is why you should watch the series more then once, and since it's only 6 episodes, that shouldn't be too hard. After you watch it again, i'm sure you'll notice lines of dialouge that you haden't noticed before, and you'll get to understand the whole story even better.
Presentation: The presentation of this show is absolutely great, the way they merge storylines into each other and the way they exspressively tell the veiwer about the backstory using spoken dialouge insted of flashbacks is very effective and has a great feel to it. Also, there is a major comedic side to the show, and this hightens the presentation for me even more, since I love funny stuff. The presentation is absolutely great, and I think it's one of the best i've seen out of a TV show.
Visual Quality: The animation is supurb. The colors are vivid, everything is smooth, the CG blends seemlessly into the animation style and character exspressions are a beautiful thing.
Soundtrack: The soundtrack of the show is complimented by some great japaneese ska preformed by the pillows, it also has some other tracks to balance it out, but the main focus of the soundtrack is the great J-ska rock. The soundtrack varies from pumping and heavy to light and mellow, but even the light and mellow tracks have some sort of heavy drive behind them, making them sound like songs that want to be heavy, but ended up being great mellow songs insted. Anyways, the soundtrack is very good.
Value: I could watch this series over and over again, and i'll still chuckle at some parts... even maybe burst out in laughter. Thats exactly the type of value that I like from a show, and this show defidently has it.
Overall: This is a great show with great animation, an original and comical storyline, great presentation(even though some parts might be missed the first time around), and if you don't laugh every time you watch an episode, then you're either not human or you're deaf, dumb, and blind.
This is the most confusing weird and greatest show i've ever seen. This is a very wierd show it has some girl on a moped and all this other wierd stuff. She beats some kid in the head with a guitar and robots pop out his head it's really hard to understand. The important thing is that it's funny as shtick. I never really got to see all the episodes but i will soon they should make another show very simialr to this or sumthin.
FLCL, that was a trip. One of the strangest animes ever created, FLCL was an anime about a woman from space, a boy with things growing from his head, a robot, and a guy with funny eyebrows. It had many references to American things, ex. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anna Nicole Smith, etc. this is one of my favorite animes. Not only did it have hours of humor, but it had amazing audio to go along with it. Well worth anyones time
It's sheer lunacy. It's like Warner Bros. meets anime with a head full of acid. I mean, I thought Spike in Bebop was just too cool, an ex-Triad smooth-talkin' Bruce Lee fightin' bounty hunter. But Haruko... how can you beat a completely psychotic, yellow-eyed, pink haired woman who drives a Vespa like a maniac and attacks giant robots with a guitar that sounds like a chainsaw? I mean, I want to know what's up with her, but at the same time, I'm having a complete blast not knowing.
I have never been an anime fan. My boyfriend, on the other hand, is one of the biggest anime fans that I have ever met. For months, he had been asking me to watch FLCL with him, and I had always refused to, out of simple lack of interest in the genre. Finally, I agreed to watch the first episode of FLCL, and was turned off completely. I did not understand the fast-pace, I did not understand the randomness.. Why is this high school girl making out with a little kid, when she was supposedly dating his older brother? Why is there something growing out of his head? Why is the father dancing around, waving his hands wildly, making obscene gestures?? What is going on?!
I finished that episode, said “thank you very much, but I’d rather not watch anymore” and that was it for the next two months, until my internet went down one day, and there was nothing good to watch on TV. I found his FLCL dvds, and popped the first one in, to sit down for the second episode.
More randomness, more bumps, aliens and robots. Completely off-the-wall show. But there was some sort of storyline brewing. After the second ep, I was hooked. The music, by The Pillows is absolutely wonderful. It really gives the show a sense of character. From the show’s theme, Ride on a Shooting Star, to a reoccurring song, Little Busters, each song sets the pace for the respective episode.
For any of you who sat through one episode and said “no thank you,” I encourage you to give it another shot. You might find that you’ll lose yourself in the unpredictability of the paths that this show may take. You may not understand why certain things happen, but that is precisely what makes this show one of the most unique and intriguing animations out there.
Ok what the hell? What is this show's problem? It makes zero sense. I mean the animation is good and everything but the plot you just gotta ask what the hell is going on?! I mean, so there's a boy, a brother we never see, a high-school girl who hits on a boy way younger than her, a dad who's preverted, a guy with huge eyebrows, an army, and an alien on a motorcycle...But where's the @#$% plot?!
As most people know by now, FLCL is a show that not only changes how Anime is animemated, but how the story is told; or for this case, not told.
The adventures of a middle school boy and his outer space companions are what we in the Anime world call "Screwed up!". Naota makes the statement in the second episode that all of the events durring his time with the outer space rocker Haruko Haruhara are true. When infact telling by the wacky robot fighting, robot/space girl "Relations", and huge bumps comming from Naota's head all the events are clearly fictional. However, there are many times in the series when the deals with serious issues, like Marrige, teen pregnacncy, love, sex, the poor, crime, and governmental expirements (wether or not you want to consider the latter a serious issue is up to you
The idea that the producers opted not to tell any back story behind the girls exsistance is pure genius. No matter how the pie is sliced, not knowing makes the end of the series so satisfying. The girl, Haruko, acts selfishly to reawaken the space pirate, she fell in love with, and apprently she needs kids with big imaginations to do it. Irony of Ironies however, her pick for such a task is high strung, tight-wadded Naota. The two were incompatible from the beggining, but later Naota falls in love with her, while Haruko feelings for him are unclear. The back story isn't needed at all, for all is revealed in a contextual way rather than explanitory.
The series tends to show more than talk. And that's true for everything. The chracters exhibit a sexual behavior that comes short of lude sexual conduct. The characters make no mistake about it that they are in a TV show; they refer to the audience from time to time and take asides to talk about a scene or some event. The Show makes good on its promise to deliver a life changing expirence. I found myself shed a tear at the end for the ill-fated couple.
Couples in this show are celebrated, except unions of two people from diffrent classes. Naota's brother leaves to play baseball in America, abandoning his girlfriend. Naota is then subjected to an older highschoolers taunting and sexual advances. The former girlfriend, Mammimi Samejima, is looked on by the community at large as a lazy good for nothing girl going nowhere. Whenever Naota is seen with her she is refered to as his "wife" in a very demeaning way. Naota and Mammmimi's sexual relationship is not shown on screen, but implied.
The Telivision show to me was an example of how a good story means squat next to its presentation. I suggest an fan of the series to leave it alone and do not demand any more episodes than what we were given. I belive that the series of 6 or 7 episodes are perfectly alright for the series.
