AIRED:
Striker Ian Walmsley is thrilled when he gets offered a place on the Earls Park first team. Meanwhile his young wife Donna starts a search for the son she and Ian gave up for adoption nine years ago. Donna's wild-child sister, Marie, arrives from Bolton to stay and immediately scores with the player she's had a crush on for years - the Sparks' charismatic captain, Jason Turner.

Famous glamour model Chardonnay Lane and Earls Park FC's resident heart-throb Kyle Pascoe are looking forward to their wedding, despite the interference of Kyle's doting mother Jackie.

Jason and his wife Tanya worry about their future when Earls Park announce a new signing - Italian midfielder, Salvatore Biagi, who is a serious threat to Jason's first team place. At the start-of-season party, a violent row breaks out between the Turners and the club chairman, Frank Laslett, and the consequences could be terrible!moreless

Remembering this show from the past, recently I decided to revisit it. I remember it being better than this, really, but I never watched the pilot. We slowly get to learn more about this and we are introduced to a world of footballers and their girlfriends/wives.

There is a lot of promise to this show, and I'm sure it gets better as of this point. Tanya and Jason are the most promising characters, and their little cliffhanger at the end shows just that. I know Tanya will be even better, and this introduction suits her just well. Kyle and Chardonnay are okay, while Donna and Ian are the least interesting. Meanwhile, I hate characters like Marie, but it's okay for now.moreless

Ian Walmsley is given a place on the Earls Park team. His wife Donna cannot stop thinking about the son that she and Ian gave up for adoption many years ago. Donna\'s younger sister, Marie, comes to vist and uses her connection to Ian as a way to meet Jason Turner, Earls Park\'s star player, on whom she has a major crush. Kyle Pascoe, another player on the team, is working on wedding plans to marry his fiance, famous model Chardonnay Lane. Kyle\'s mother, Jackie, is not particularly fond of Chardonnay and does not approve of her job or lifestyle. Jason, and his wife Tanya, are worried about Jason\'s future with the team when rumors begin circulating that Earls Park has been negotiating to sign Italian sports star Salvatore Biagi. Tanya and Jason get into an argument with Frank Laslett, Chairman of Earls Park, that escalates into Tanya causing Frank to be seriously hurt. Jason and Tanya leave Frank for dead and try to make the incident look like a drunk driving accident.

Well, I finally gave in and purchased the first season of this show on dvd now that it has come out in Region 1. A friend of mine in the UK had been trying to talk me into watching this show (and Bad Girls) for months, but I resisted, mainly because it sounded like it would be a show about some rich stuck up trophy wives. Well it turns out I ended up enjoying the trashiness of the show quite a bit, although I still think it has a terrible name. To make a comparison with Desperate Housewives, I think Desperate Housewives has much better acting, but Footballers\' Wives is trashier (whether or not that is a good or bad thing is up to the viewer).

My first impressions: Jason and Tanya are stupid pigs and I hope they both go to prison forever or die some horrible death. I like Donna although her husband is a bit of an idiot. Walmsley is a strange last name, never heard of it before. I like Kyle and Char the best, although Kyle\'s mom needs a good punch in the face. She\'s a mean snotty cow.moreless
