And then there were five. Wade, Vic, Chad V., Greg and Eric met Jordan poolside to hear the latest on their quest for love - and hopefully a million bucks to boot. To their surprise, a large contraption had been erected over the pool. Jordan explained that four of the five guys would get to go on two separate double dates with Erin. The one remaining bachelor would be left out. In order to determine who would go and who would stay, the guys had to complete a physical challenge. The guys had to hang from a bar suspended above the pool. The man who held on the longest got to choose who would be excluded from the double dates. I liked this competition, if only because it involved all the guys in their swim trunks. To make matters worse, Jordan invited Erin along to watch the guys suffer. They each employed various "grips" - over, under, alternating. Greg and Vic slipped into the pool first. Eric fell next after trying to reestablish his grip. Wade and Chad remained. Despite his determination, Wade took a splash making Chad the winner. Chad decided to eliminate Wade since he had already had a solo date with Erin. Erin later said she was happy with Chad's choice since she and Wade had spent time alone together already. Wade, for his part, was obviously disappointed but took it like a man. Chad and Vic would accompany Erin on the first double date. The guys later arrived at a ranch, where Erin was waiting with a horse-drawn carriage. There were times when Vic felt like a third wheel, so he gave Chad and Erin some time alone. Vic, what are you, stupid? Why don't you just wish them well and offer to be Best Man at the wedding?! Of course, Chad and Erin seemed to get along swimmingly when they wandered over to the pool during Vic's absence. Chad seemed genuine in his attraction towards Erin, yet he couldn't help but think of the million dollars. Of course, that didn't stop him from busting a move on Erin and getting the first kiss of the competition! Poor Vic stumbled upon them mid-kiss and felt his days were numbered. Eventually, he rejoined the twosome knowing that he would not be attempting any passion the rest of the day. He and Erin stole some time alone, but just to chat. He later said that not telling Erin about the money was like "not telling your best friend that his girlfriend's cheating on him." Definitely not a good feeling. However, the three of them seemed very chatty and happy on their way back to the mansion. Perhaps the name of the next show should be For Love or Money Threesome. Just a thought. Back at the house, Vic was slightly annoying Wade with his constant praise of Chad. Eric, on the other hand, was only further motivated to knock Chad out of the running. Eric joined Greg on the second double date the next day. Eric dominated the conversation in the limo ride. Eventually, they arrived at a Polo Club and changed into preppy polo clothes. While Erin seemed attracted to Eric, she questioned his intentions. Where was Greg? Who knew? It was as if he wasn't even there. Eric took advantage by planting a kiss on Erin - a kiss he described as "the best first kiss" he'd ever experienced. A bit dramatic, don't you think? Maybe I'm just jealous - um, maybe not. Next, Eric, Erin and Greg tried their hand at polo under the direction of one of the club's instructors. Greg was taking things really seriously - and wasn't comfortable in the group setting at all. Erin later said Greg's charisma didn't attract her, but that he would most likely choose her over the money so he was a good safety net. Ouch. Greg, of course, had no clue. Eric was cocky and confident when everyone arrived back at the house. And by "cocky and confident", I mean "super annoying." Chad described Eric as "conniving and back-stabbing" while the others tried to get him to say whether or not he kissed Erin. That night, Jordan arrived dangling a solo dinner with Erin as bait. However, it would be ladies choice as to which bachelor joined Erin for a romantic dinner out at the gazebo. The guys thought she would pick either Greg or Vic, further proving that guys don't have the best gut instincts. Why wouldn't she pick Wade - who had been excluded from the previous two dates? Well, Erin decided to go with the one guy she wanted to spend more time with…Eric. Ugh! More fuel for the ego fire! They enjoyed their romantic dinner with nice conversation and what looked like good food. Weighing heavy on both their minds, however, were their dark secrets. While discussing the other guys, Eric admitted that he manipulated the conversation by pretending to just love all the other guys in order to impress Erin. After dinner, the two of them decided to hit the hot tub, while the other poor slobs were playing dominoes in the house. Eric made sure to go inside and rub it in a bit before heading back out to the spa. The other dudes had had enough and gave him a good ribbing. Once they were wet, Eric poured on the charm and the smooching started up again. Erin seemed to actually be falling for it - and him. Am I the only one who thinks he's kind of creepy? What happened next was unpredictable and awesome! Prior to the elimination ceremony, Jordan gathered the guys for an unexpected proposition. He offered each of the remaining five bachelors $10,000 to remove themselves from the game. Ten grand to walk away! If they accepted the offer, Jordan instructed them to remove their ring and drop it on the small red pillow in front of them, with the caveat of never being able to see Erin again and relinquishing their shot at a million bucks. The guys put on blindfolds and removed their rings. When Jordan asked if any of them would voluntarily leave for $10,000, one ring hit the pillow - but it wasn't revealed who! Jordan then disclosed that they would've gone as high as $25,000. Also, since one man eliminated himself there would be no elimination ceremony that night. Jordan then went to tell Erin what had happened, without revealing who it was. She was stunned. She walked out to the normal elimination area and was greeted by the guys - one by one. Shockingly, Wade came forward first. Was he the one? No. He said he didn't take the money because he sees so many great qualities in Erin. Greg was next. Erin was flattered that he didn't take the money, especially since it hadn't been easy for Greg. Now only Eric, Vic and Chad V. remained. Schmaltzy Eric greeted Erin next. He explained to Erin that he would never take the money because "what does it profit a man to gain the world but lose his soul." Puhleeze. So now it was down to Vic and Chad. Two of the least likely guys to sell out! Vic approached Erin and gave her a big hug. He proceeded to tell her what a great woman she is, but he told her that he felt her connection with Chad was greater than any chance he had. He returned the ring as Chad rolled his eyes in the background. Erin asked him how much money he got for walking away and Vic told her. She then told him that he wasn't the one who was going to be eliminated and that she was sad to see him go. Vic said he had no regrets as he left the mansion. That left Chad to talk to Erin. He told her he believed in fate and wanted fate to bring them together in the end. He also added that even if the sum of money had been bigger, he still wouldn't have chosen the cash over her. Hmmm, good to know. So even though one of the remaining four guys would have been eliminated if Erin had the choice, she was still pleased to continue the game. Later Vic torched his million-dollar check, but looked forward to collecting his $10,000 check at some point! He said he just didn't feel right about staying since he didn't feel he had a shot at getting the girl or the million.moreless
