Episode 8
AIRED:
Another wonderful day at the mansion began with a hearty breakfast and a heart-to-heart from Jordan. In the main room, Jordan explained that the dating would begin. Only eight of the 10 would be going on group dates in two groups of four. Two guys would be left out. Erin had chosen two guys as "team captains" and those two guys would have decide which two would be left out. Wade and Munch were chosen as team captains. The guys seemed to embrace the sports analogy as a dating technique…and why wouldn't they? Wade said there were pros and cons to being a captain. On the plus side, he explained, you were guaranteed to go on the group date. On the negative side, you were definitely going to have whoever you "cut" from the dates against you. Wade and Munch went about the business of picking teams. Wade chose Thomas, because he was the youngest and therefore furthest from Erin in age. Munch picked Dan. Greg was next for Wade's team, even though Wade considers him one of the top three guys in the house, "besides myself of course," he said modestly. Chad F., who said the other guys see him as a "starch" competitor (apparently a lot of ironing competitions going on off camera), was next to join Munch's team. Wade's final choice was Deric, who likened the experience to being picked last for grade school kickball. The final choice was left up to Munch. Vic, Chad V and Eric remained. Munch took what he considered the lesser of three evils and went with Eric. Wade's group would be going on the first date that very day! Of course, guys don't display the same giddy excitement girls do. There was no scrambling to hog the bathroom mirror. There were no "do I look fat in these khakis?" comments. The team was, however, required to wear matching Hawaiian shirts, which I thought was a bit cruel. (Not as cruel as the period costumes that Erin and her group had to wear on their date though). Erin greeted the guys at a beach just as the yellow-orange sun was starting set. They walked down the beach to a little cove where hula dancers and a flamethrower greeted them. One-by-one each guy was singled out to shake his booty. Erin commented that Wade seemed really secure since he had picked really handsome, quality guys for his team. Um, aren't they all handsome quality guys? Should Wade have picked up a couple hitchhikers on the way to the date instead? Erin didn't think Greg or Deric were the types to be caught up in the money. Thomas, she felt, was in it for the experience and not as smitten with her; therefore, she felt he would take the money. She also had concerns that if/when the guys found out she took the money last time they would become disenchanted with her. Or they might respect the fact that she followed her instincts. Later, Greg and Erin got some alone time. Erin said Greg had exceeded her expectations and went on about how "really good looking" he is. Then the group grabbed their torches and headed off to tribal council, oops, I mean walked back up the beach to the rocks. Greg, ever the chivalrous one, offered Erin a piggyback ride so she wouldn't have to walk through the water. Back at the mansion, the vibe had definitely changed. There was talk of strategy and bad feelings regarding the team picking. Early the next morning, Munch's team actually primped! Eric felt that Munch had made a mistake by choosing him and Chad F. for the group. After a long limo ride, they arrived at Quakes Stadium in Rancho Cucamonga, where Erin was perched on the pitcher's mound waiting. Why they didn't have to wear matching baseball shirts is still a mystery to me…but wait? What's that? Customized baseball jerseys! Phew! Plus, it was a brilliant excuse for all the guys to take their shirts off and put on the new ones! Munch also had an Afro wig to wear under his baseball hat. So not hot. Erin said, "Munch is like your favorite stuffed animal." Ouch. Eric, on the other hand, volunteered to help Erin stretch. Much better move. During the game, Erin said that Dan "scored the most points" with his surprisingly outgoing personality. During the lunch break, Eric once again stole some alone time and discussed the age difference issue with Erin. During the long limo ride home, Eric brought up religion. D'oh! He was doing so well up to that point. Erin asked him if it was the values and morals of his Christian faith that he admired or was it "Christianity" itself that was more important? He said the values and morals were key and that he'd dated non-Christian women in the past. It seemed awkward for the other guys in the car, and a little for Erin too. After dinner, the guys received a message from Erin. It instructed the guys to go upstairs and change into the clothes that had been provided. What is with the costumes? It was already a dating masquerade with all the million dollar secrets floating around. They had 20 minutes to get ready. The clothes were hideous. The worst combination of ill fitting, Hugh Hefner cast offs. The "pajama party" kicked off with champagne when Erin arrived in her cute, matching pjs. Vic asked Erin to take a stroll so he could nab some alone time. Vic took advantage of the time and tried to spill out as much info as possible until Chad V. interrupted. Chad gave her a tour of the house - not knowing, of course, that Erin had lived in the house only a few months earlier. It wasn't long before the party moved into the hot tub. Wade said that while they all knew Erin was worth a million bucks, when she got into the hot tub she looked like a million bucks. Love Wade! The guys were looking pretty "money" themselves. Greg was a bit of a party pooper and decided to go to bed instead of join the hot, hunk soup in the hot tub. Many drinks and steaming bubbles later, Erin excused herself for the evening and the mansion turned into a scene from "Animal House." Thomas and Wade conducted the home version of World Wrestling in the main room to apparently let off some steam (and most likely, post-hot tub frustration). The next morning, Jordan joined the guys at breakfast with yet another announcement. Three of the guys would be eliminated that night. Chad F. theorized that as more people get eliminated, the bigger an issue the money will become. Good instincts that Chad. At the elimination ceremony, Erin started by letting the guys know how much she had enjoyed the group dates and getting to know everyone. Then she called Dan down, calling him "quite the package" and showered him with compliments, but then said she didn't feel a romantic connection with him. Greg was next and was asked to stay. Smiling Thomas greeted Erin next and he too was asked to stay. Erin talked to Chad F. next. Erin also wanted him to stay. She praised Munch's ability to make her laugh, then launched into the "you'll make someone very happy one day" which meant Munch was going home. Chad V. walked down and Erin told him that although she hadn't spent much time with him yet, she loved their brief chats and wanted to see where things could go. Wade got the call and Erin told him she felt like they understood each other on more than one level. She asked him to stay, which meant that Vic, Deric or Eric would be going home. She doubted whether Vic was there for the right reasons, but because of their good conversations she wanted him to stay. Eric got the call and Erin told him that she felt sparks with him during their first meeting. However, the religion card came into play and it seemed Eric would be going home. But no! In a last minute switcheroo, Erin said she would take him up on his offer to get to know her better despite their religious differences. That left Deric. Erin said she just didn't have the butterflies with him, so he turned out his ring. Munch, Deric and Dan torched their cash and shared a cab back to reality.moreless
